In honor of September being alopecia awareness month, I'm SO excited to announce the start of my nonprofit, @creating.sunshinee. When I lost all my hair to alopecia a few months ago, I took to social media to spread my story and ask for help. In the span of a few days I saw a community of people from all over the world pour out so much love and support- from personal stories battling alopecia, to those undergoing hair loss from chemotherapy, to those simply willing to listen. I discovered how so many people from all aspects of my life became my ray of sunshine. Therefore, I knew I wanted to create that same sunshine for others, especially for young girls and women struggling with the physical and mental effects of alopecia.

When I first lost all my hair, I struggled to find any type of wig to wear on a day to day basis. I commonly ran into the issues of the wigs not coming in red hair, being uncomfortable, looking very fake/too short, and most of all expensive. On average, a quality wig tends to cost roughly a thousand dollars. Insurance companies don’t cover anything regarding wigs since it's thought to be a “cosmetic necessity” rather than a “medical necessity.” Therefore, I decided to start creating my own. With the help of @abby.terbest, we started to create wigs in hats that were both comfortable, realistic, and most importantly affordable. With the help of @creating.sunshinee, I hope to get all different types of wigs out to women and young girls battling alopecia, chemotherapy, etc for free. Most importantly, I hope to spread alopecia awareness out to the world💘👩🏼‍🦰🌻 #alopeciaawareness
