SUMMER TIME IN EUROPE! - Hello sketching friends, I am finally home and back to my regular routine and work. It took a while to organise and scan all my sketches and painting from this 3 week long trip. Here are a few of my favourite sketches and photographs from the trip. If you like to see more and read more, please go to my Substack where I made videos and wrote a long post about my sketchbooks. Follow the link šŸ‘‰ paulwang.substack.com šŸ‘ˆ Attend the symposium in Toulouse was super memorable too. Despite the heatwave, I really had a great time connecting with so many new and familiar friends. Happy to hear your thoughts if you were also in Toulouse! #sketchbook #urbansketchers #watercolour #danielsmithwatercolors

When I left Toulouse and hopped a train to Bordeaux, I didn’t stop drawing, oh no, far from it - but I did get very lazy about posting 🤨 So now, dear readers, the bad news/good news (depending on how you look at it) is that there will be a steady trickle of catch up posts heading your way. And those of you who know me, know that I don’t skimp on taking photos either. So - sorry (not sorry). Prepare yourself for a bit of catching up. Or go have a very long tea-break, should you prefer šŸ˜‰ We begin in Bordeaux, a classy monochrome contrast to Toulouse’s warm terracotta vibes - like the restrained aunt peering over her glasses at the one that’s always slightly flushed with wine and kicking her heels up. @creation_optimiste @isaquarelle and I started with a scouting tour - including coffee and a game of ā€˜are they French?’ - before settling on the lively Place Fernand Lafargue for lunch and sketching. The Miroir D’eau (water mirror) was my favourite stop of the day, with fantastic people watching and photo possibilities. I sketched it from photos back in @creation_optimiste ā€˜s gorgeous studio, as there was no shade or shelter to be had. Swipe to the last pic to see how I carved a mini stamp from an eraser to try to short cut the million windows… #miroirdeau #usk #urbansketch #mixedmedia #bordeaux

Working backwards through day 6 (symposium day 2) in Toulouse, starting with where I ended - a sketch walk. I only made it to 2 of the 6/7? stops along the way, and then the throwdown coz you know me - once I settle in, I really settle in šŸ˜‚šŸ˜¬šŸ¤¦ā€ā™€ļø Lovely to meet up with @creation_optimiste and she kindly acted as interpreter for all the interested folks asking questions while I sketched. Walking around Toulouse is an experience in being stunned by gorgeousness on almost every corner. It strikes me even more as an Aussie, I guess. Our ancient, rich history isn’t available in the form of architecture. Today was a collage day inspired by the amazing @marinka71 and her sketchbooks. Swipe to see the bit of poster that I started with, sourced fresh from the wall. The morning was spent with the talented @archcomix learning some of his tricks for drawing people in motion and then back to the markets to practice on those poor, innocent stallholders. @ritasabler ā€˜s morning lecture on reportage sketching was both inspiring and daunting. Last day of the symposium tomorrow… #usktoulouse2026 #usksymposium2026 #mixedmedia #collage #usk
