Meet the facilitator behind CREW’s CLIMB Course, Resilience and Diversification in the Digital Creative Industries.

This course is led by Declan Droney, an experienced entrepreneur, business consultant and business mentor.

Declan is the founder of one of Ireland’s most distinctive artisan food companies, Kinvara Smoked Salmon. He also works as a business mentor with Galway LEO, Mayo LEO, SCCUL and Enterprise Ireland, and lectures with UCD Innovation Academy and GMIT New Frontiers.

Through this course, Declan will support participants to think practically and strategically about risk, resilience, margin protection and sustainable growth.

Participants will come away with practical ways to:

✅ Identify where your business is most exposed
✅ Prepare for change and uncertainty
✅ Protect your margins and understand your break-even point
✅ Explore new income streams, customers and markets
✅ Rethink and innovate your business model for future growth

From Galway to Copenhagen

From the Creative Business Cup Global Finals in Copenhagen to connections across the European creative ecosystem, our latest EU Spotlight explores what three years of CBC participation has opened up for Irish creative businesses.

This year, JunieXR represented Ireland on the global stage, but the opportunity extended far beyond the pitch.

CREW connected with founders, investors, accelerators and ecosystem builders from across Europe, sharing experiences and best practices, exploring how different regions support creative businesses, and discussing some familiar challenges:

💡 Connecting creative businesses with investment and finding better ways to articulate the investment potential of the creative industries.

🚀 Connecting creative businesses with wider technology and innovation ecosystems so they can contribute to and benefit from these networks rather than operating in a separate silo.

🌍 Building the relationships that enable international collaboration — making it easier for entrepreneurs and start-ups to connect, collaborate and access opportunities across borders.

This work builds on the SPECTRA project, which explored how regions can strengthen their creative innovation ecosystems through collaboration and knowledge exchange.

And, importantly, the exchange goes both ways. We bring new knowledge, relationships and case studies back into our programmes while sharing the experience and expertise of Ireland’s creative ecosystem with our European partners.

European collaboration isn’t just about going somewhere; it’s about what happens when you come back.

Mariana and Sofia spent the day at @impactfestival_cph surrounded by inspiring people, creative ideas and good conversations, and somewhere between the Polar Bear Ice Pitching and the Community Dinner, Lapee was announced as the winner of the Creative Impact Award! 🥹

CREW’s CLIMB Course, Resilience and Diversification in the Digital Creative Industries, is now open for applications.

This one-day course is designed for creative businesses who want to manage risk, protect margins and build a clearer plan for sustainable growth.

Led by Declan Droney, the course will help participants understand where their business is most exposed, how to respond to uncertainty, and how to assess new opportunities without damaging profitability.

Across two practical workshops, participants will explore risk, resilience, margin protection, diversification, future customers, flexible business models and growth planning.

You’ll leave with a practical risk-and-diversification roadmap and a clearer 12-month plan for sustainable expansion.

Bu yolculuk bizim için Türkiye’de başladı. İzmir Kalkınma Ajansı iş birliğiyle Create in İzmir kapsamında gerçekleştirilen Creative Business Cup Türkiye 2026’yı kazanarak ulusal birinciliğe ulaştık ve ardından onların desteğiyle global sahnede Türkiye’yi temsil etme fırsatı bulduk.

İzmir Kalkınma Ajansı’na, Create in İzmir ekibine ve İEÜ+KREA ofisine, Creative Business Cup Türkiye 2026’yı hayata geçirerek Chroma Naturals’ın önce ulusal birinciliğe, ardından Kopenhag’daki Global Finals’a uzanan yolculuğunu mümkün kıldıkları için çok teşekkür ederim.

Happy entrepreneur’s day! Receiving this image from 9 years ago made me think how some core things just remain the same while everything around us seems to change so fast.

Take a moment with me to look at the very core of you and your business. (That’s the magnet so we want to keep it strong!) What has it always been about? What will stay no matter what?

For me, looking at this picture, it has defenitely been passion towards impact, circularity, growth and innovation design.

A clear core supports healthy and agile growth, removing unnecessary resistance for change. The brighter the core, the easier it is to navigate making short-term decisions serve even in the long-term 🌠

Keep it going, straight from the heart, fellow entrepreneurs! Your heart knows what the stressed mind forgets 💚

Biyomedikal Mühendisliği Bölümü Araştırma Görevlimiz Duygu Geçkin tarafından kurulan Chroma Naturals, 30’dan fazla ülkeden girişimcinin katıldığı Creative Business Cup Dünya Finali’nde dünya ikincisi oldu! 🌍🥈

Yaratıcı Ekonomi Uygulama ve Araştırma Merkezimiz (İEÜ+KREA) tarafından, Create in İzmir kapsamında İzmir Kalkınma Ajansı iş birliğiyle düzenlenen Creative Business Cup Türkiye 2026’nın kazananı olan Chroma Naturals, ülkemizi Kopenhag’da gerçekleştirilen dünya finalinde temsil etti.

Lahana, pancar ve mor havuç gibi sebzelerin atıklarını kozmetik sektöründe kullanılabilecek doğal pigmentlere dönüştüren Chroma Naturals; yaratıcılık, iş modeli, büyüme potansiyeli ve etki kriterleri doğrultusunda yapılan değerlendirmeler sonucunda dünya ikinciliğini elde etti.

Daha önce TÜBİTAK desteğiyle yaptığı çalışmalarda da petrol bazlı ve hayvansal içerikli renklendiricilere alternatif sunmayı hedefleyen Duygu Geçkin’i, dünya sahnesine uzanan bu başarısından dolayı gönülden kutluyoruz. 👏🧡

We’re coming home from Copenhagen with an incredible result: Chroma Naturals is the 2nd place winner of the Creative Business Cup 2026 Global Finals! 🏆🌍

Representing Türkiye, we shared our vision of transforming fruit and vegetable by-products into plant-based natural pigments through green biotechnology.
This recognition means a lot to us. It shows that science, creativity and circular thinking can come together to create new value for the cosmetics industry.
