The first important step is to pick the perfect spot and use a level.

Then use a masonry bit to drill through the stone (we used a 3/16 for the size of deck screws).

Very important to drill up to the wood behind the stone so that the screw can grab the wood instead of going right through the wood.

So when you put the screw in through the pre-drilled hole of the stone the end of the screw will grab the wood behind nice and tight.

Deck screws that we used were gold so what we did right away was just use some Tremclad paint and used a little brush and painted the end of the screws black and you’d never know the screws were even in there.

A little cabin update . Plumbing and electrical getting very close to done so we will have a furnace and that means heat.

Once the inspection is done we can proceed with insulation and poly.

The goal is to start with drywall in a couple of months. The process has been slow. Our trades people are so busy doing more than one job .

But like they say all good things take time.

Some women change into grubbies before starting a home renovation.

Apparently, I prefer an argyle sweater and $$$ @theheygang jeans.

Today’s agenda: stare at rocks until they tell me where they belong.

We’re in the middle of a pretty ambitious fireplace install and today was all about dry-laying the stone. Which sounds straightforward until you realize every single piece has a different shape, size, color and personality.

The corners have corners. The stones have opinions. And I’ve rearranged the same pieces more times than I’d care to admit.

Bennie and Bear are supervising. Their contributions are minimal, but moral is high and it’s dinner time.

Nothing is attached to the wall just yet. It’s trial and error, creative problem solving and the kind of project that I somehow find incredibly satisfying.

Overdressed. Under-qualified. Fully committed.

Stacie, lately. 🤍

I keep getting asked when I’ll post again🤣 I’m not great at this, but we are just about to start siding and exterior rock. Our electrical is all but done at this point. Getting close with help from some great friends and family! Can’t wait to see how the exterior ties it together.
