I told a friend recently that I believe we’ve reached a place with Creative U where I no longer need to be present for community to happen.

People have taken ownership of it. They’ve made it their own. They’ve become part of the family, part of the fabric of what we’re building. It’s no longer just a place people attend. It’s a place people call home.

A place of safety. A place of refuge. A place of belonging.

A place where people can find faith, connect through fitness, build genuine friendships and know there’s always a seat for them at the table.

And that’s always been my heart. To build something bigger than myself. A community that doesn’t revolve around one person or an organisation, but one that reflects the heart of God.

Not a community that says look at us, but one that says there’s a place for you here.

Because true community isn’t built around one person. It’s built when people begin to take ownership, belong and make room for others.

This is for everyone.

I remember saying, God, I don’t know if I’m the right person for this.

I love worship. Some of my greatest moments with God have happened during worship. It’s often where He speaks to me the clearest.

This whole night came out of a conversation with my friend Daley. We both had this desire to come back to simple worship. No performance. No spotlight. Just making room for the Holy Spirit to move and for people to encounter God.

But I remember thinking, God, are You sure? I don’t play an instrument. I don’t understand the technical side of music. I didn’t even have a team. I genuinely had no idea what I was doing.

My prayer was simply, God, if You’ve put this on my heart, I’ll be obedient. I’ll give it everything I have, but I need You to lead me.

And now I look around and we have this incredible team. Some of the most talented people I’ve come across, but more importantly, people who have caught the heart of Jesus.

It reminds me that God does some of His best work when we feel completely out of our depth. Maybe He isn’t asking us to have all the answers. Maybe He’s just asking us to say yes.

Our team has sacrificed so much for this Friday. Time, money, effort, rehearsals, planning and prayer.

And we’ve done it because you’re worth it.

We want to create a space where you can encounter God, find community, find belonging and be part of something bigger than yourself.

It’s not about Creative U. It’s not about us.

It’s about Jesus.

We’ve prepared the room. Now we’re making room for Him.

Behind every gathering and every event you see is an incredible team working together to bring it all to life.

There are so many moving parts, different teams, different gifts and different skill sets, but one shared heart to create a safe space where people can belong, find community and know that there is a place for them.

I’m incredibly grateful and honoured to lead such a remarkable team. A team of people who have caught the heart and vision of Creative U and willingly give their time, energy and gifts to serve others.

Creative U has never been about hierarchy. We’re a community of people coming together with one purpose, to be intentional about every person who walks through our doors.

We want you to feel seen. We want you to feel welcomed. We want you to know that you belong.

More than putting on events, we’re building a community invested in people spiritually, mentally, physically and socially.

Here’s a little look behind the scenes at one of our Creative U team meetings. This is the team behind what you see.

Why Creative U?

The first four photos are from when we first started.

We were gathering for Bible studies in a photography studio. Why a photography studio? Because I knew some of the people we wanted to reach might not have felt comfortable walking into a church, but they might walk into a studio.

The heart was simple: create a space outside the four walls of church where people could gather, encounter Jesus and find community.

I had no idea what I was doing. There were rocky moments, moments of uncertainty and plenty of times where I wondered how any of this was going to come together. I still don’t feel qualified for what God has entrusted me with.

But then I look at the photos that came after those first four.

Just over two and a half years later, I found myself sitting with different teams preparing for our worship night. A worship team. Marketing. Hospitality. Front of house. Graphic design. An intern. People giving their time, gifts and hearts to something that once started as a few people gathering in a photography studio.

Sometimes you have to stand back and look at what God has done.

Creative U was never built because I had everything figured out. It was built through obedience, one yes at a time.

None of this points to me. It points to the faithfulness of God.

And somehow, I feel like we’re only getting started.

Had the incredible privilege of capturing a glimpse of what CreativeU is doing in our Young Adults space!
It was so special to see young adults from different churches and walks of life come together with one purpose, to uplift the name of Jesus.

CreativeU x CMN GND STUDIO created a space where we can invite Christ into our workouts because as we train our bodies, we can equip our spirits too.

It’s such an honour to be part of a faith-led wellness community helping people grow in mind, body and spirit and to witness what God is doing through some of my incredible friends. There’s something so beautiful about seeing faith, wellness, creativity and community come together.

In this season, I find myself overwhelmed by God’s favour, His blessings and His grace. I’m genuinely in awe of His goodness and faithfulness towards me.

And it has nothing to do with material things or what I’ve gained. It’s about what God has done in me and what He continues to do through me.

When I stand back and look at my life, I’m reminded that God truly does work through people who don’t have it all together.

My life is a reflection of His grace. An embodiment of what can happen when you surrender, lock in with God and allow Him to lead your life.

I don’t have it all together. I’m simply evidence of what God can do with a surrendered yes.

All glory belongs to Him.

This is Scandalous Grace.

By far, this has been the hardest project I’ve ever been a part of. For the first time, I felt completely out of my depth. I didn’t have all the technical skills to bring the vision to life. All I knew was that God had placed something on my heart: to capture what He has done in the lives of people around me.

Their stories have inspired me and are remarkable reflections of Christ and His grace.

One thought has stayed with me throughout this project:

People might not be open to reading the Bible, but they may be open to hearing your story.

Scandalous Grace is a love letter to the lost. To those who think they’ve gone too far or believe there’s no way God could still love them. Our hope is that someone hears these stories and thinks, “If God can do it in their life, He can do it in mine too.”

Thank you to our incredible guests Angel, Sophie and Sabir for courageously sharing their stories.

To Ali, whose generosity and incredible talent behind the camera helped bring this vision to life. To Shalom, who beautifully captured the moments behind the scenes. And to Chloe, whose amazing design work has shaped the visuals you see across our socials.

I’m eternally grateful for you all.

One of the reasons I started Creative U was simple. I wanted to help people.

I’ve always had a heart for people from all walks of life, especially those who are often overlooked, pushed aside or forgotten by society.

Some of my favourite stories in the Bible are the encounters Jesus had with people who lived differently. The sinners, the tax collectors, the prostitutes, the sick, the rejected and those who, according to the religious traditions and culture of the time, were considered unworthy or unclean.

Yet Jesus saw them.

He sat with them. He spoke with them. He touched them. He listened to them. He loved them.

That has always challenged me because Jesus didn’t only love people who looked like Him, believed like Him or had their lives together. He intentionally went towards people others often walked away from.

Last year, we started our outreach program because I wanted that same heart to be reflected through Creative U.

I wanted our community to know that we’re not just an organisation that puts on gatherings and events. We believe our faith should move us beyond the four walls and into our communities.

To feed people. To serve people. To pray with people. To listen to their stories. To remind people experiencing hardship that they are seen, valued and loved.

Because building healthier people and stronger communities also means showing up for those society has pushed aside.

For us, outreach isn’t just something we do.

It’s part of who we are.
