POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

From an empty floor at Lagos Comic Con to a little world built for @creelestudios 🎬

A night of measuring, building, wrapping and putting every piece in place. Then the doors opened, and people made the space their own. Seeing guest explore, play and settle into the booth made it all worth it.

African animation has spent this decade proving there’s no single way to tell an African story. Some films dig into ancient mythology, others imagine radical new futures, and some simply capture everyday life with unmatched craft and heart.

What ties them together isn’t style. It’s the confidence that these stories don’t need to be shrunk down for anyone, they’re built to travel.

We put together a list of African animated films from this decade worth knowing

Directed and produced by @nissination, SOPO tells the story of a boy discovering his gift while his father learning to understand him and music bringing them together. It is deeply personal and truly very special as it was inspired by her grandfather’s story,

A timeless project from @creelestudios with special music contributions by @madekuti; African imagination is seen, celebrated and elevated with the innovations of the next generation of custodians.

SOPO is out now on YouTube. Go watch, share, and give them all the flowers. 🌍🚀 #VVS #VVSLagos

This one lives close to my heart.

As director and producer, I’ve poured everything into this story, a boy discovering his gift, a father learning to truly see him, and music becoming the language that finally brings them together.

SOPO draws inspiration from my grandfather’s own story, which makes this project deeply personal to me.

None of this was a solo achievement. It’s the result of our incredible team @creelestudios and collaborators who believed in this story and poured their craft into every frame and note. A special thank you to @madekuti and his team as their musical brilliance brought so much soul and depth to this project.

This is just the beginning. So much more is coming from Creele Animation Studios.

For now, go watch SOPO. Let it move you the way it moved us making it. 🔗 Link in bio / YouTube

@nissination’s new 3D short, ‘SOPO,’ is now streaming exclusively on YouTube.

The animated film is inspired by her grandfather Benson Idonije’s memoir on Fela Kuti & follows a young musician trying to earn his father’s approval, with music bringing them closer.

Made through her own Creele Animation Studios, ‘SOPO’ is just the start, with more fun stuff on the way.

New character voiceover piece exploring quiet menace over loud threat. Sometimes the scariest thing isn’t a scream — it’s someone who sounds like they’re genuinely listening.
