I’ve been thinking a lot about personal style lately— there’s a big cake movement happening right now (obviously) and as a cake decorator you get requests to mimic certain styles that other people have come up with. It’s a double edged sword— to create in your own style (which is obviously preferred) or to give the client what they want, which sometimes is as close to the replica of a few pictures they’ve sent you (which you end up seeing the same cake all over the internet, you know which one I’m talking about with the lambeth piping). Even if you wade through tireless Pinterest Ai profiles to find the original creator of the style to give credit to, they often don’t see the messages in their IG inbox (hidden message inbox damn you).

I made a cake a few years ago for Shop Noble (a long boy with lots of fun piped swirls that held black cherry jam 🍒 on a blue table) and someone in London, requested a cake decorator mimic that cake. Where did they find my cake— in the throws of the “for you,” page I would guess. But that commissioned cake decorator reached out, said “hey, thank you for inspiration— I know if you were closer the client would’ve chosen you but I tried to honor your style for their special day as best as I could.” And I super respected that and it reinforced the idea that, you don’t know who you touch with your work.

Anyways— above are some cakes I’ve done recently and I’ll credit some of my biggest cake inspirations below, just cuz I’d like them to know that their work has touched mine.
