I created a WhatsApp group 😉🤩

Before we ever got to Yaoundé, I was stuck.
Emails were flying back and forth like missiles on a rampage, and I had questions I couldn’t really ask the organisers. They were the kind you only ask someone in the same boat.

So when the dates were confirmed, I did something small. I slid into the LinkedIn DMs of my fellow UNDP Creative 4 Peace Innovation co-winners, @cris.douty from Côte d’Ivoire and @norahvonkimathi from Kenya, and suggested a WhatsApp group. My thinking was simple: let’s start building a bond before we arrive, and let’s support each other with the travel, the slides, everything in between.

That one message turned out to be one of the best decisions I made in this whole process.

That group carried us through the planning. Then it became a place where we share opportunities with each other. And somewhere along the way, it became a little circle of solidarity. Three people from three countries, with three very different projects, looking out for each other.

By the time we met in Yaoundé, we weren’t strangers. We were already a team.

Our projects:
🇳🇬 ARTvocacy: spoken word and storytelling to build dialogue across ethnic and religious divides
🇰🇪 Norah: humanoid robots that teach and tell stories in sign language for deaf communities
🇨🇮 Cris: VR that reconnects young people with Ivorian cultural heritage

If there’s a lesson in this, it’s that sometimes the thing you need is not a bigger platform. It’s one message to the right people. Send the DM. Start the group. Build the bond.

The conversation on peace continues. The Geneva Peace Forum is happening later this month, and yours faithfully will be speaking on it. You can register to join online: https://www.genevapeaceforum.ch/en/gpf-2026/registration

Thank you, Yaoundé. ❤️🇨🇲

Some ideas start small and come from a personal experience. ARTvocacy; Voices Beyond Divides, began with me, a spoken word poet in Abuja, wondering if poetry, storytelling and open community dialogue could get people from different ethnic and religious backgrounds to actually listen to each other.

This week, that idea travelled to Yaounde. I'm here with @undpafrica as one of the Creative 4 Peace Innovation Winners, and I'm still smiling about it.

I pitched ARTvocacy: Voices Beyond Divides, and at the end of Day One I performed a spoken word piece.

But the panel is what I'll be talking about for a long time. I shared the stage with my co-winners:

🇨🇮 @cris.douty using VR to bring Ivorian heritage back to young people.

🇰🇪 @norahvonkimathi, building humanoid robots that teach and tell stories in sign language for deaf communities.

🇿🇦 Siphelele Mabaso, our runner-up, designing games and digital tools for social change.

Panel moderated by the stunning @theefejohnson 🇳🇬

A poet, a robot builder, a VR pioneer and a game developer, all on one stage, all talking about peace. Completely different crafts, same goal. I came to share my work and I'm leaving with a head full of new ideas.

Learning alongside @stanleyenow was a highlight too. Brilliant, yes, but it's his humility that stayed with me.

And Cameroon? The people, the food, the weather, the warmth. I'm loving it all. 😂❤️

Here's what I'm taking home: start before you feel ready. If you're working on something nobody sees yet, with no big platform, no budget, and hardly anyone clapping, build anyway. Create. Learn. Show up. That's how this started for me.

Thank you @undp4youth @undpafrica @undpwaca and everyone who made this possible.
Still learning, still creating. 🇨🇲❤️
