Gridlife Laguna Recap! 🎢 (Part 2)
Day 2, RACE DAY! I was feeling pretty confident in my ability the lap the car, but driving inches from eachother is a different story.
Race 1 - I was very cautious on the race start, especially starting P14, nearly in the exact middle of the 35 car field. That’s a lot of metal to shove into a single corner - that doesn’t belong to me. Couple that with cold brakes and tires (this car couldn’t warm them up as quickly as I wanted) amplifying the sensitivity to brake lockups. I fell back a few spots into the first corner, and was completely on defense for the first lap. This car and engine combo is a 100% momentum car. If you fall out of the powerband for even a split second too long, you’re a sitting duck. And if you’re not early enough, AND fully committed to throttle - you’ll never get alongside to attack. I quickly realized this and deployed a strategy based on that, and was able to run some people back down and ultimately find myself crossing the line in 12th!
Race 2 - We started making some damper changes to stop the mid corner rotation earlier. With such little torque, tipping in the throttle to stop rotation wasn’t really a thing, it relied so much on brake release that it really made me have to lock in to place the car how I wanted. Unfortunately the opening laps the car is a bit of a handful while everything comes up to temp, causing me to lose a spot, and pretty much landing me in no-man’s-land for the entirety of the race. Really though, I think this benefited me - I was able to lap without focusing on cars around me, and really get in tune with the FD.
After losing only one spot and finishing P13 for race 2, I couldn’t wait to apply what I learned for the final two races on day 3.

… And I took that personally
P30 -> P18 in 15 minutes 😮‍💨
(But really I was driving angry bc I missed the grid and had to start last for race 4)

Racing the @crispinauto 350z at LimeRock Park was a nostalgic experience. It reminded me of a simpler time with my Z, when it was still VQ, when it didn’t have so much effort poured into it, when it didn’t need to be touched all weekend, when no matter how many changes you made it had roughly the same pace.

Revving out a VQ to 8k RPM felt like a real proper ode to my time racing Z’s and I’m very grateful for the opportunity to do just that. I’m definitely exploring new options for my next build and am excited to finish out this season in something a little different. 🤪

Is just like racing with friends in Forza, except this happened in real life.

2025 Recap Part 2: The Journey

So who’s idea was it again to take not one, but TWO basically un-tested racecars with an old truck and trailer we had put maybe 500 miles on, across a COUNTRY to go racing?

So that went exactly how you could imagine -

Truck broke down
We ate some questionable food
We ate some good food
We broke the cars
We went flying
We fixed the cars
We did autox
We broke the cars again
We went camping
We did some sight seeing
We went home

Oh and I think we drove at some cool racetracks at some point?

Mid-O Dumpy

Didn’t drive this one, but I rolled out to support the homies 🙌🏽

We kicked things off in Illinois, where the cars are posted up now instead of making that long haul back and forth to Cali. About a 5-hour drive… or 17.5 if @gingerdrifts is behind the wheel 😅

First time at Mid-Ohio and wow — that place is gorgeous. But let me tell you, the humidity-the humidity somethin else. I’m used to Cali heat- but Mid-O a different type of hawt with its 80 degrees and 197% humidity 🥵

Friday through Sunday was packed with practice and racing for @istubzz, @gingerdrifts, and @crispinauto.

@istubzz was deep in the trenches figuring out gremlins 🫠🥹
@gingerdrifts may or may not have tried to crash some cars (in the pits) 🤓🙃
@crispinauto never stops 😅😭

Wheel-to-wheel is a different beast — fast laps and clean race craft? Game on.

As much as I missed driving, it felt really good to be in the background this round — showing up, parts runs, camera op driver, and cheering them on. Sometimes support hits just as hard 🫶🏽
