POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

This is just an appreciation post for @criticallyyoursreads . We've been buddy reading the Dungeon Crawler Carl series together. Life got in the way and she wasn't able to read at the same time as me, which is totally fine! Life happens. I get it. But this gem of a human felt bad that when she got an extra @aardvarkbookclub box she decided to send it to me.

I am truly so grateful for this friendship and if you're not already following @criticallyyoursreads you definitely should!

Now onto the box! There were so many great books to choose from and I'm seriously considering getting my own subscription even though I'm on a book buying ban haha. Which book should I start with?

I want to know! What's a really thoughtful gift someone has given you?

I keep hearing amazing things about The Housewife!!!

Audiobooks I've loved recently! See what I did there? This is mostly just an appreciation post for Jeff Hays @thumperthumb @soundbooththeater and Dungeon Crawler Carl. I just finished book 6 and am still amazed that he can do new voices with so many characters. These audiobooks have set the bar way too high for all other audiobooks. After I listened to the first one I thought it was a whole cast of narrators. It turns out, it's one guy doing it all. From a sassy cat to a mentor who changes form every floor to all the different monsters, it is really impressive what he can do with his voice.

The series itself is wonderfully written and a fun adventure while also having lots of emotional depth. Every side character adds something new and different to the crawl.

What's the best audiobook you've listened to? Or if you don't listen to audiobooks what book do you think would be good as an audiobook?

👻 audiobook review 👻

Episode Thirteen by Craig DiLouie

A true friend is someone who knows what tropes you love in books and can say something like, "Wait? You love haunted house stories and books that are framed around reality TV shows and you haven't read Episode Thirteen? It's exactly up your alley."

And, I hate to get all braggy here, but I have a very good friend and it's @criticallyyoursreads.

(Lies. I love bragging.)

Episode Thirteen delivered exactly what was promised. The book uses documents left over from the filming of a ghost-hunting TV show, including emails, video transcripts, and journal entries. This type of format can make for very fun reading, as long as the reader is willing to buy into the premise. Do I really believe that a production company would ask the cast and crew of a TV show to keep a pen and paper journal? No, but I understand that concessions need to be made in order to develop characters and move the plot forward.

The best part of this reading experience was actually the listening experience. The sound design for the audiobook goes all out and incorporates sound effects and music to further recreate some of the filmed portions from the narrative. On top of this, there's a full cast of readers so that it was always easy to tell who was speaking (or writing). Audio is really the way to go with this book.

I will say, though, that I wasn't crazy about the ending. Things get a bit meta-physical towards the end and I wasn't always following things. The ride was a blast and unforgettable, but the destination was a little bit of a letdown for me.

However, the excellent production of the audiobook keeps this one at a solid four stars for me. But most importantly, I know that I have a friend who can recommend the types of books I love, and I'm so glad to feel seen.

Sharing my April hopefuls! I have a mix of genres here and I am so excited for it. I have definitely been neglecting my ARCs from Netgalley so I will be trying to prioritize at least one a month till I get my feedback ratio up. I also really want to read Project Hail Mary so I can see the movie while it's in theatres.

Have you read any of these? What are you excited to read in April?

Thank you @elysesepilogues for your post the other day like this. I loved it so much I messaged a bunch of my bookstagram besties right away to ask if they wanted to do it.

Here are our books of the Olympic Rings! Also I asked too many people. That's why there's 6, but oh well! That means more recommendations for you!

Fun fact I learned recently: the rings represent the five inhabited continents, Asia, Oceania, the Americas, Europe and Africa.

What's your favorite Olympic sport?

Make sure to give these lovely ladies a follow!

🎄 𝙏𝙒𝙊 𝙁𝙊𝙍 𝙏𝙐𝙀𝙎𝘿𝘼𝙔 + 𝙈𝘼𝙄𝙇 𝘽𝙊𝙊𝙆𝙈𝘼𝙎 𝘾𝘼𝙍𝘿𝙎 𝙒𝙄𝙏𝙃 𝙈𝙀 🎄

Two of my current reads are advent style Christmas thrillers! I’ll admit I didn’t start them yesterday. It was back to school for my littles, my brother was in town, and it was my dad’s birthday. So, I’m playing catch up and reading 2 chapters each for today! Def going to try to stay reading them as intended and not trudge ahead 😆

💌 I have been working on getting my Christmas cards sent out! I knocked out my #MerryBooksmasCards list - 10 were mailed on 11/28, 5 on 11/29, and 15 on 12/1. It was so fun putting them together and I hope they are just as fun to receive once they reach their destinations!
12/1 babes I couldn’t tag on the mailing pic - @justloved_books @astorybyjewels @cozycornertbr @beckafreewrites @stevie_the_girl @bookishbythecoast @saltyandspicebooks @bookedandbusy_kb @clarksideofbooks @bookishly.amber (thanks for hosting!) @thegothicgrimoire

I have about 80 more cards I’m putting together and my goal is to get them all mailed by this weekend! If you’re expecting a card from me, keep a lookout 👀 🫶🏼
