✨Hidden just off Borough High Street, Crossbones Graveyard is a former burial ground believed to hold around 15,000 people, many of them paupers and children.

It’s also traditionally linked to the “Winchester Geese” - medieval sex workers whose brothels were licensed by the Bishop of Winchester. The name sounds strange, but “Goose” was a nickname for these women.

The graveyard closed in 1853 and today the gates are covered with ribbons, flowers and tributes, creating a rather eerie memorial to London’s “outcast dead”.

A monument, a pride parade, a funeral car. My hands slick, on my knees in a cruising ground, in a graveyard. A love letter to London’s legions, the Outcast Dead <3

With the Crossbones Graveyard.
