Why does nature matter to us now? Wild Currents begins with a sense that, amid the noise of daily life, we have grown distant from something to which we still belong. The forces that move through roots, tides, and weather also move through our bodies and through the artist’s hand as it works with material.

Angélica Chavarro’s repeated stitches, lived experience
becomes an act of faith: each gesture holds open the possibility that life can change in ways we cannot yet see.

Ana Paúl folds paper into forms that evoke a forest, suggesting nature’s cycles of growth, return, and renewal.

Johannes Nielsen’s hand presses into clay, drawing us
toward a more inward relationship. His work asks what it might mean to build, within ourselves, the sanctuary we so often seek elsewhere.

Bill Claps’ Natural Abstractions, nature becomes an ever-changing field of perception. Through photography, painting, gilding and digital processes, shifting light alters the image itself, echoing the impermanence and continual transformation of the natural world.

These works ask us to do more than look. They invite us to slow down, to notice the movement held within a stitch, a fold, a surface, or a form, and to consider how closely our own lives are bound to the world around us.

Nature offers no single answer or permanent peace. Through these acts of making, Wild Currents asks us to sense the currents we share with it, and to reconsider where the boundary between nature and ourselves begins.

September marks the beginning of a new art season in New York, and @jiangmiao.art’s exhibition at @crossingart in Chelsea feels like a beautiful place to begin.

Through a distinctive process of layering, carving, and removing the surface, Jiang Miao creates paintings that exist somewhere between construction and erosion. The canvas becomes a record of accumulation and release—where layers of pigment, texture, and materiality reveal a sense of depth, movement, and time.

What I find particularly compelling is how her process allows time itself to become part of the work. What is built up is also gradually revealed, creating a visual language that continues to unfold as you spend time with each piece.

For those of us who look at art through both an artistic and spatial lens, her work offers an especially intriguing conversation with architecture and interiors—how texture, color, depth, and light can transform the experience of a space.

Welcome to New York, Jiang Miao. It’s wonderful to have your work become part of the city’s ever-evolving contemporary art dialogue. Wishing you a meaningful and successful beginning in NYC.

“I place color into time, and with each incision I take time out again.”

Born in China, Jiang Miao’s artistic practice has long been rooted in a profound sensitivity toward ancient civilizations and advanced forms of wisdom, as well as an ongoing exploration of the universe and the essence of life.

LDM Art Global @ldm_art_global and Crossing Art @crossingart is pleased to present The Shape of Living Light, Jiang Miao’s first solo exhibition in New York and her first major presentation in the United States. On view from September 3 through October 3, 2026, the exhibition features a new body of paintings that grow from the artist’s sustained attention to time, material, and light. ☯️

Each work moves through continual cycles of layering, carving, concealment, and revelation, allowing time to become visible within the finished surface. 🦋

Built from real Taiwanese American oral histories, “A Story That Lives Within US: Ada — Volume II” traces one man’s journey through 1980s–90s New York — a city rebuilding itself, just like he was.
