Mike Huckaby — THE DEEPER SIDE OF DETROIT Mike Huckaby was much more than a DJ and producer. A key figure in Detroit house and techno, he was known for his deep musical knowledge, impeccable record selection and commitment to sharing that knowledge. Through his productions, remixes, work at Record Time and mentoring, he left a lasting mark on Detroit and the global electronic music community. Since his passing in 2020, his influence lives on. Been sitting on this one for a while. I didn’t want to open Bufs’ record until I had the 1200s back up and running and could actually play it properly. So, decks finally sorted, record finally opened. It’s out on Frank Amodo’s Feel the Funk Records, and was mastered by none other than our good friend Chris Simmonds, which makes the whole thing feel even more special. A few bits from the EP here. Very satisfying hearing your mate’s tunes coming off your own turntables. Which one’s your favourite?

Retro Emotion — "Time." September 2026. This one's a full-circle moment. Chris Simmonds and I started making house music together on Cross Section Records back in the early 90s — this album picks that thread back up, decades later. House, jazz-funk, soul, intelligent hip hop, and a few remakes of old 90s classics thrown in for good measure. We're deep in the mixing stage now and it's shaping up to be something special — jazz-fusion legend Jeff Lorber features across two tracks, with Nelson Dialect and GG Sargeant also on board. First half of ‘26 has meant a lot of graftin’ and a whole load of craftin’! @_housewerk_ has reached a whole new level with underground house music artists from across the country and the globe being welcomed to the South West UK.
