Black History Month events around our college have been in full swing this month! 📚

The LRC team hosted two events as part of this year’s theme, ‘Honouring our Communities’.

We welcomed @croydonlibraries, where staff and students found out more about their services and signed up for library cards.

We also hosted our very first #AuthorTalk with Meekam K. Mgbenwelu, author of ‘My Father Is..’, who shared his writing journey and answered questions from students about his book and the publishing process.

Thanks a lot to our guests and the LRC team for making these events happen! 🙏🏽

Our favourite cinema: a fresh perspective 🎬

A new look, a new website and plenty of ambition for what comes next – there’s lots happening at the David Lean Cinema.

For this week’s feature, we chat with the team about their much-loved independent cinema: the volunteers keeping it running, their connection to Sir David Lean, and their plans to welcome more people through those beautiful Victorian doors.

There’s a personal connection too – our co-founder Julia worked with the team on the new identity through her design studio, 31% Wool.

🎃 FREE OCTOBER HALF TERM IN CROYDON!
For the final post in my South London half-term series, we’re heading to Croydon!

27 OCT — POKÉMON AUTUMN CLUB

Our newly elected Year 6 librarians received some fantastic training for their role at Croydon Library last week. They toured the library, seeing ways in which the books are made accessible as well as how they are organised and showcased. They took part in a fun scavenger hunt to explore different genres and thought about how to share recommendations in our community. Thank you to librarian Beth for our amazing training!

I love my library putting out a themed section but, as I have a scare threshold of Bergerac, this selection of Susan Hill stories is staying on the shelf. #susanhill #ghoststory #myhalloween #halloweenread #croydonlibraries

🎃🎆 A whole lot of half-term!

With Croydon’s school holidays stretching across the next few weeks, we’ve rounded up ten things to see and do in and around the borough – from free gaming and Halloween fun to fireworks, art, music and theatre.

And yes, we’ve snuck in a few things for the grown-ups too. 😉

A lovely day at Croydon Library! 🐱📚❤️

Yesterday, I took my Cats’ Eye View books along to Croydon Library for their event, accompanied by my two little helpers!

It was lovely meeting local families, chatting to fellow children’s authors and seeing children getting creative with the cat colouring sheets. 🎨🐾

The girls enjoyed helping out (and making themselves at home under the table! 😂), while Ozzy, Tibby, Leo and Mimi kept watch over the stall.

A big thank you to everyone who stopped by to browse the books, have a chat or join in the colouring. It was also wonderful meeting other local authors and discovering their books!

Thank you to Croydon Library for hosting us! ❤️
