Continuing our 25th anniversary celebration of @wilco’s Yankee Hotel Foxtrot, @cryin_eno writes about “Radio Cure,” a drowsy, five-minute stretch of the album’s first side where Jeff Tweedy bemoans how his mind can’t seem to generate passion or dedication for anything or anyone. Except for maybe his own art, of course.

new name alert: the “letterboxd/goodreads/beli for concerts” i’m building is now called HearHear 👏 (sign up at hearhear.fm, app is coming soon!)

after two months in an invite-only beta, we’ve already got ~100K shows logged from 1.3K concertgoers across 27 countries.

and don’t worry, we’re still keeping a running tally of the “first concert ever” leaderboard. *NSYNC has taken the lead, but Miley is close behind. who was yours? create an account today at hearhear.fm and start building your life in live music!

(why the switch? encore was a fun first name, but not unique enough. HearHear has been the name of my newsletter since 2020, and it felt right to carry it into this project. saying it out loud has the playful, joyous energy of being at a show with friends and strangers alike. hear hear!)

“Everything was in hyperdrive. Not just for Texas Is The Reason, but I would dare say really anybody in their twenties—in general, you know, other people’s feelings don’t matter as much as they should. And then you add two years of constant activity, constant movement, and you’re still growing. You’re still adapting. You’re still learning, and people just grow apart, just like anybody in an unbanned relationship. Feelings change, priorities change. That happens with people. Everything has a shelf life, and the older I get, the more I truly do believe that everything happens for a reason.”

As the New York post-hardcore greats celebrate 30 years of their sole album ‘Do You Know Who You Are?,’ frontman Garrett Klahn reflects on being a young punk, falling back in love with old music, and why suddenly breaking up was the smartest move the band ever made.
