Striking a balance between training this horse and getting my book ready for my editor is a real challenge, but thankfully I have my horse bestie @cryptidbararts to get me back on track with a picnic and some parallel play.

I am so happy with Paladin’s progress this week.

And a huge thank you goes to my horse bestie and trainer @cryptidbararts . She’s an extremely talented horse trainer who has raised her own mustang Wildfire up into a wonderful young horse.

If you’re in Utah and have a horse to train or just want to learn how to ride, contact her. Especially if you’re a queer person. She and I are collecting our fellow queer horse girlies, gays, and they’s like Pokémon cards.

And for my bookish friends, I hope this week showed how unrealistic it is in media when a human has an instant bond with a wild horse. That just doesn’t happen. But with tremendous patience and realistic expectations, you can make fantastic progress and form a genuine bond with the animal. And to me, that’s worth way more than an instant connection.

Guys, I promise he’s actually really nice despite his wild past.

And yes, his feet need serious trimming. He’s still learning to pick up his feet for the farrier. The trainers he’s with will be focusing on that and a few other essential manners before sending him home with me.

This will be my first horse, but I have the support of my very skilled trainer @cryptidbararts who will be working closely with us every step of the way.

August photo and video dump

This was a month of leveling up and upgrading my life. New kitten, new truck, stepping up at work, and getting a hell of a lot better at the range.

The last year was tough but August proved I always bounce back cooler, hotter, and better than ever.

Second rodeo officially in the books!

Yesterday I ran barrels and poles on my sweet boy Aries, and teamed up with Kym on Barron for the relay. I’m still an intermediate beginner—and Aries is a rescue horse with a lot of trauma and a big fear of crowds—so my only goal was to get him through the patterns safely. It wasn’t perfect, but we did it. And honestly? That’s a win in my book.

I’m so excited to spend the summer with rodeo club, cheering on my fellow cowgirls and continuing to grow with this incredible ranch family. Let’s ride!

I'll post more details tomorrow because I'm beat! But thank you to our cheerleaders! Whirlwind day started on Good Things Utah and ended with the unveiling and so many interviews! I'm so grateful to every single person who joined us on site and in spirit! Love you all!
