POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

I’m sure #aaronbarrett will remember this poster I found in my parents attic. At Age 15, I made it to take to the @reelbigfish show at Manchester Apollo supporting @sum41 back in 2002 😂😂😂 safe to say it did the job and Aaron was happy to see there was a loyal Fish Army contingency here in the UK. (It was the singer from the band Wilt who added “asshole” after getting it passed around during the RBF set 🧌)

“There’s a show happening behind the vintage store!!”

Thursday night was just soooo good. Music, friendships, a small dog, and John C Reilly

@beebsmoney and @playhouse.band brought it all together behind @deadlady.vintage

Also, it has been I think almost 10 years since I got to see @bahmmofficial and they’re just so amazing

Back in 2019, @melissalynflg made a joke at the Back to the Beach festival:

“What if you started a @reelbigfish cover band?”

It was funny. It was ridiculous. That joke became The Originals.

The goal was simple: get some old high school friends together, make some new ones, learn a bunch of Reel Big Fish songs, play shows for beer and have fun.

In 2020, we played our first show, opening for The Toasters.

And then the world shut down.

COVID hit almost immediately, and that easily could have been the whole story. One show. A fun idea. A cool memory.

But we didn't let it end there.

We got back together, started playing again, and the joke kept getting more out of hand. We stretched our wings, met bands and made friends throughout the ska scene, and found opportunities we never could have imagined.

Then, somehow, our little cover band caught the attention of Aaron, @scottklopfenstein and Reel Big Fish themselves.

In April, we got to meet the band and express our gratitude. They embraced what we were doing and, in some small and wonderfully bizarre way, The Originals became part of the chain of events that got some old friends playing music together again—culminating in Reel Big Fish's first show in six years this July.

We're not going to pretend we reunited Reel Big Fish. That's their story. But knowing we played even a tiny part in something that meant so much to so many people—including us—is pretty damn special.

And then, last weekend:

We performed with Reel Big Fish!!!!!!

Er... Reel Big Fish performed with us. :)

Somewhere between that first show before the world shut down and standing onstage with the band that inspired all of this, the joke became something we care about deeply.

So thank you to every bandmate, every band we've played with, everyone who's booked us, come to a show, bought merch, followed us, shared a post, loaned us gear, given us a place to crash, made an introduction—or simply got the point.

We have no idea where it goes next. But then, we never expected any of this.

55 shows. 5 states. Countless new friends.

Thanks for the joke, Melissa.

We may have taken it a little too far.
