POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

As a South Asian woman, I’ve often danced between two worlds: the collective “we” I was raised in and the individual “I” that corporate life demands. Over time, I’ve learned that we can hold both; carrying our culture with pride while making space for our own voices and dreams.

I’m deeply grateful for the resilience, traditions, and sacrifices of those who came before me, and I’m committed to leaving a trail for those who come next. 💛

South Asian Heritage Month (July 18–August 17) is a time to celebrate our roots, honoring where we come from while boldly embracing where we’re going.

Do you wear a workplace 'mask' 🎭

I used to be so stuck on the idea of fitting in at work that I hid every aspect of myself that might compromise my 'professional persona'.

On arriving at work, I would hang up my authentic self and put on my workplace mask.

The mask analyzed and reconfigured my responses and opinions to fit my estimation of professionalism. None of my colleagues knew anything about my hobbies, my family, my rich and vibrant cultural life. I spent my days squeezing into distinctly non-Neelu-shaped holes.

If you, like me, find this to be exhausting, take a look at my new blog: The Link Between Authenticity and Self-Advocacy At Work

Your parents had to live their lives in survival mode, where practicality, logic, financial needs took precedence.

It allowed them to create stability for themselves and you. It allowed you to have the privilege of living a life in alignment with your authentic self.

It is okay to not follow in their footsteps exactly.

It is okay if your decisions and choices are taking you down a different path.

In fact, that may be the very path that leads you to purposeful meaning, and fulfilment.
