three weeks ago, i was playing in a tournament that ended my season a lot sooner than i ever wanted. i’ve never wanted to be back on the court more than i do right now. i felt the pop and instantly knew my season was over.

i got an mri scheduled, which showed a free-edge minor labrum tear and fraying along my labrum. after my consultation with the surgeon, we agreed with my limited motion surgery was most likely the best option. i did physical therapy for three weeks, hoping i would be able to get back out and play, but after those three weeks, i still couldn’t move my arm.

looking back, it’s a good thing we went through with surgery because once he got in there, it was worse than we anticipated. i had a SLAP tear, severe bursitis which he was able clean, and my bicep tendon was stuck in the bicep groove by lots of scar tissue making it not glide like it should . i’m also part of the 1.5% - 6.5% of general population with a buford complex, which basically means i’m missing a section of my labrum and instead have a thick cord like ligament instead of being thin and flat that is known for causing SLAP tears. my mom always told me i was special.

surgery went well and he was able to repair my labrum, clean up all the bursitis, and do a bicep tenodesis to fix that bicep tendon. i’m still in quite a bit of pain and dealing with lots of bruising and numbness, but i’m so grateful to finally know what was going on and to be on the road to recovery.

thank you all for the prayers and support! thank you, dr. dalling, for getting me all fixed up, and a special thank you to the nurse who gave me dr pepper!
