Drill : Low to High, High to Low Puck Movement

Drill Explained :

🔸P1 starts by sending a puck from goal line up to Blueline, P1 follows pass up to top of circle, D1 sends puck back to P1 wall side, P1 will collect puck in a tight turn towards wall and send the puck to the corner for P2
🔸After pass P1 will stop up on the half wall, P2 touches puck back to P1, P1 will send puck back up to D1 and crawl up the wall to the Blueline, D1 collects pass walks the Blueline a little and gives puck back to P1
🔸P1 collects puck with a pull across body forehand or backhand, and explodes down wall, P1 looks for the seam pass back to D1 who has found their open space, P1 makes pass, D1 collects and fires or one times it if on their off side

Congratulations to PHD Client @shylermcgahey on his commitment to play @d3hky for @cssmhockey in the @miacathletics conference beginning this 26-27 season.

Shy is a 6'5 right shot forward, with lots of offensive upside. He skates well for his size, and competes hard. He has a great shot, but also sneaky good hands too. When battling along the wall and in front, he is hard to knock off of the puck. He won't shy away from physicality either, he will get involved physically then turn around and bury you on the score board. A little bit of a late bloomer, but due to his massive size he has been able to make an early commitment to college hockey.

McGahey has had stints in a few jr leagues on his way to this commitment. He played with @admiralsjra of the ojhlofficial then picked up games in the @nojhlmedia
with @blindriverbeavers and also with @slbombers of the @sijhlhockey between years 2024-2026. Over those years Shy suited up for 61 games where he picked up 14🚨's & 16🍎's.

Shyler looks to use his freshman year as an adjustment period, and also build some strength to his massive structure. This will hopefully go rather quickly so he can get himself into a strong position help the team win some games.

Good luck Shyler it's been a pleasure training you and watching you grow especially over the past summer. Go there and show them what you got!!

On Monday, July 27th, the College of St. Scholastica announced the hiring of Brenden Kotyk as new head coach for the men’s ice hockey program.

Kotyk, a native of Regina,SK, CAN, is a former Saint where he played the 2012-2013 season before transferring to the University of Minnesota Duluth. He accumulated 14 goals & 28 assists for 42 points in 122 career games between DI & DIII. He was an alternate captain for UMD in his senior season where the Bulldogs won the National Collegiate Hockey Conference (NCHC) Frozen Faceoff title while also reaching the Division I National Championship.

Professionally, Kotyk played three seasons where he dressed in 151 games with the Greenville Swamp Rabbits & Toledo Walleye of the ECHL from 2017-2020. He’d help the Walleye reach the 2019 Kelly Cup Finals. Kotyk also appeared in 7 games with the Hartford Wolf Pack (AHL) during the 2017-2018 season.

Kotyk’s coaching career would begin in the 2020-2021 season, becoming an assistant coach with the South Carolina Stingrays (ECHL). Working primarily with the defense and penalty kill, the Stingrays would reach the Kelly Cup in his first season. He’d become the interim head coach the following season before officially becoming the 11th head coach in franchise history ahead of the 2022-2023 season. As a head coach, Kotyk would put together an overall record of 94-56-12 (.580) while capturing one division title. Most recently, Kotyk was an assistant coach with the Savannah Ghost Pirates (ECHL) for the last two seasons.

Out of boredom, let’s take a look at what used to be the #NAIA! We know it’s not NCAA, but thought it’d be fun to see what was decades ago…
