Ciao! I’m Anya, CIEE Rome’s Marketing and Business intern! 🎬🌟 I’m from Colorado, though I grew up in New Hampshire. I recently graduated from Colorado State University with a degree in Communication Studies. 🌄 Just last year, I was a student in CIEE’s Summer in Rome program. Coming back to work for CIEE was an easy decision, as I have this institute to thank for the lifelong connections and memories I made during my own study abroad experience. 🇮🇹🛵🍝 I’m excited to be back alongside the team that first welcomed me to Italy. Follow us @cieerome to learn how we’re making study abroad accessible to YOU! ❤️‍🔥 #ciee #cieestudyabroad #cieerome #cieeworktravelers #rome @csucommstudies @rams.abroad @coloradostateuniversity

More than 700 people packed @thelyriccinema this week for a special advance screening of THE WEIGHT, a 2026 Sundance Film Festival selection, with director Padraic McKinley and actor Julia Jones joining us in person to share the film—and the stories behind it—with Northern Colorado audiences.   Beyond the screening, the night brought students, filmmakers, creative professionals and our community together—creating connections and celebrating the future of Colorado’s creative community.   The evening was presented by Sundance Film Festival and The Lyric, in partnership with ACT Human Rights Film Festival, Best of Fests Colorado, CSU’s College of Liberal Arts and Visit Fort Collins, with thanks to Vertical Entertainment.   And there’s even more ahead. With Sundance Film Festival coming to Boulder in 2027, Colorado is entering an exciting new chapter for independent film.   We’re proud to be building that future—one screening, one conversation and one creative connection at a time.   Thank you, Fort Collins, for showing up. We’ll see you at the movies. 🍿

The goodest boy on film this year? Argos 🐾   If you’ve seen The Odyssey, you may have found yourself thinking about him after the movie. You may have even recognized his name from @CSUVetHealth, where Argus is the name of a veterinary client support service for people navigating the illness, uncertainty, and loss that can come with caring for an animal.   We asked Dr. Evan Elkins why this appearance by Odysseus’ faithful dog can have such an emotional impact, and why the film’s version of Argos hits differently than Homer’s original poem.

“They’re from the wrong side of the tracks.” “She’s a city slicker.” “He grew up out in the sticks.” When we tell stories about places, the language we use often reveals our assumptions about the people who live there. So, what do messages about rural America suggest about who belongs (and who doesn’t)? Court Fallon, Ph.D. in Communication Studies and a Summer 2026 Thesis/Dissertation Fellow, examines how place, class, race, gender, and sexuality work together rhetorically to shape messages about rural queer identity and belonging in the United States.🌈🚜 Court’s dissertation shows how rural queer folks disrupt, reject, and repurpose dominant narratives about them through three case studies on pop star and drag artist Chappell Roan, a rural LGBTQ+ campout in a conservative U.S. state, and speeches by rural transgender activists in U.S. state legislatures. One of these case studies was recently published in the academic journal Text and Performance Quarterly - find a link to the article in the comments! Congrats to everyone. Congrats to my squad. You all are going to accomplish amazing things. Go at life with guts, gratitude and grace. When you fall, pick yourself up off the ground and go one more round. If you feel lost, get on the road, travel, be free and wild and adventurous, let the road tell you where to go. Value your time, inspire others, love as much as you can and always remember to move all your chips to the center of the table and bet on yourself. I’m proud of all of you. I’m in your corner until the end.
