Today, we’re announcing a $5 million gift from Bohemian Foundation that will advance CSU’s leadership in energy research and permanently fund student programs focused on democracy and the arts. “This gift advances our capacity for groundbreaking energy innovation, and it also ensures that two of our most distinctive student initiatives will continue to provide generations of young people with opportunities to lead, create and contribute.” — President Amy Parsons $3.8 million will increase capacity at CSU’s Powerhouse Energy Campus, a global hub for advanced and low-carbon energy solutions, industry collaboration and entrepreneurial scaleup. The investment will help expand the Powerhouse footprint and meet growing demand for research in grid resilience, wildfire, advanced fusion, nuclear technologies and energy access. It will also support more engineering capstone projects, student entrepreneurship and a fabrication academy open to students in every major. $1.2 million will endow the Colorado Democracy Prize and the President’s Art Prize, both launched last year. The Colorado Democracy Prize funds workshops, seed grants, mentorship and an annual award for student-led civic projects. The Art Prize is a juried award for artwork by CSU students and recent alumni from all disciplines, with students leading the selection and curation. The prizes build on years of CSU leadership focused on student success, strengthening democracy, civic engagement, public dialogue and creative expression. Thank you to Bohemian Foundation for decades of investment in innovative ideas, student opportunities and programs that strengthen communities across Colorado and around the world. This extraordinary gift supports our broader institutional expertise and advances priorities that have shaped CSU’s work for years. Democracy showed up at the tailgate! Our Strengthening Democracy team brought the energy to Saturday's tailgate with temporary tattoos, a freshly bedazzled tablecloth, and the wildly popular Rams Vote rally towels. We helped people register to vote, check their voter registration, learn about upcoming Democracy programming and get a preview of the CLA Democracy Summit, Oct. 26–27. Most importantly, we got to connect with the CSU and Fort Collins community and have some great conversations about democracy, civic life and what it looks like to participate. Big thanks to ASCSU and the City of Fort Collins for partnering with us, and a special shoutout to the @csucpd students who represented Strengthening Democracy and kept the conversations going all day. And yes, we still have rally towels. 😉

A couple weeks back I had the opportunity to attend Citizen University’s “Power + Character = Citizenship” youth training, hosted by the CSU Center for Public Deliberation. The training explored how civic power and civic character work together to strengthen democracy and community life, emphasizing that citizenship is not just a status, but an active practice rooted in participation, responsibility, curiosity, and care 5.7.26 #CitizenUniversity #CPD #Civic

Congratulations to Jo Carroll on receiving CSU’s Albert C. Yates Student Leadership Award! 🎉 The Yates Award is one of the University’s highest honors for student leadership, recognizing students who lead with intention, who bring others in, and who leave something better behind. Through roles like student associate with the @csucpd and editor for @JUR_Press, Carroll’s leadership fostered collaboration, curiosity, and shared responsibility in all their endeavors. As a McNair Scholar, a student leader, and now a Yates Award recipient, Carroll has conducted research, facilitated complex conversations, and built spaces where others can step forward. When asked what impact they hope to leave behind – both at CSU, and generally – their answer returns to something much simpler, and far more human. “To leave space for listening,” Carroll said. Next month, Carroll will graduate with degrees in French and political communication. They plan to take what they’ve learned about dialogue, facilitation, and community and apply it across disciplines, industries, and real-world spaces. Read more about Carroll at the link in @csuliberalarts bio 🔗
