Looking for a minor that will allow you to explore interesting, current, and relevant scholarship, pair nicely with any major, and engage your critical thinking and writing skills?

The queer studies minor might be perfect for you! It’s only 15 units. Please reach out to the WGSS chair, Dr. Baralt, if you’re interested.

#LatineHeritageMonth Today we celebrate Steven Ruiz, Instructional Multimedia Specialist in Academic Technology Services and current graduate student in CSULB’s M.A. in Anthropology program.

As a first-generation college student, Steven draws inspiration from his own educational journey and is passionate about helping future generations of Latine students access the resources and opportunities that have supported his success.

For Steven, storytelling is a powerful tool for exploring identity, navigating challenges, and inspiring others. Through his filmmaking at The Beach, he hopes to share meaningful narratives that empower the Latine community to pursue opportunities and achieve goals they may have once thought impossible.

His story reminds us that the impact of education extends beyond our individual achievements. By sharing our experiences, uplifting others, and creating pathways for future generations, we can help expand what is possible for our entire community.

As Steven proudly says, “¡Viva la playa!” Steven Ruiz, Instructional Multimedia Specialist in Academic Technology Services, and graduate student in the Anthropology MA program.

In September and October, KOR 101, 102, and 201 sections learned about Chuseok (Korean Thanksgiving) and celebrated with Korean food, traditional snacks, crafts, and games.

Dr. JiHyun Park's classes made songpyeon, a traditional Korean rice cake enjoyed during the holiday, with other traditional Korean snacks and banana milk.

Dr. Park's students also visited the Korean Cultural Center in Los Angeles to celebrate Hangul Day (observed October 9).

One of the highlights was a K-pop listening and dictation competition, along with a Korean culture quiz. CSULB students won second and third place and received Apple Watches as prizes! They also received BTS CDs as participation gifts.

They played traditional Korean games, tried on hanbok (traditional Korean clothing), and enjoyed delicious Korean food.

Register for Korean or one of AAAS' other Asian language classes (Chinese, Filipino, Japanese, Khmer, and Vietnamese) in Spring 2027!

Your worst idea might be your best one.

Evaluating and Refining Your Ideas 🧭

This week starts with a game: the Worst Idea Competition. Pitch the most ridiculous, impractical, outrageous idea you can. Then we flip it, because the worst idea often points straight at the best one. 😈
After that, it's time to choose. Four maps, one goal:
→ Feasibility vs Impact
→ Market Size vs Capital Investment
→ Risk vs Reward
→ Desirable vs Feasible

Plot your ideas against each other and walk out with your three top contenders.
Tag the friend with the wildest ideas. 👇
