Max Kantor, our Guideline rep, was fishing with Derrick Kirkpatrick on the river yesterday and he landed this beautiful 20”+ brown. Second pic is yours truly with a 17” bow that ate an olive streamer yesterday. New River report is up, click the website link on our Bio page.

Looks like we’re hitting peak foliage, this weekend should be spectacular. Water conditions are nice/normal with just over 200 CFS total flow, and just under a 1/2” of rain predicted for tonight into Friday morning (a good thing). Cooler mostly sunny weather for the weekend. We received a big Simms fall order this week, and we now have our own UpCountry “Helium” Everfloat CDC in 12 colors. Main bugs yesterday were tan Caddis & small Blue Winged Olives (BWO’s), I had my best luck with small BWO nymphs, and olive streamers caught some fish for me too. Don’t sleep on Junk Flies like Eggs & Mops. Keep your eyes out for Redds (oval light colored patches in shallow gravelly water where trout spawn)- dont walk on or right below them, we’re about to head into spawning shortly. -Torrey. #upcountrysportfishing #farmingtonriver #dryflies #euronymphing #browntrout

Local guide Derrick Kirkpatrick with a beautiful 21” brown he caught on a small nymph last week. New River Report is up, click the website link on our Bio page.

It’s getting prettier & more colorful every day here, we’re about one week away from the absolute peak. The next few weekends should be beautiful. Trout will be beginning to spawn soon, so keep an eye out for redds, the light colored oval patches in the gravel where they deposit their eggs. These are typically in the gravelly tails of pools and side channels, but can also be in the heads of pools where there is suitable small gravel. This activity also makes brown trout more aggressive, which can make streamers a good choice. Small nymphs are steady producers, and when bugs are on the water, you should see some rising trout, especially later in the day. Make sure to click on the link for the River Report so you know what’s hatching and you don’t miss out on the latest tips. -Torrey. #upcountrysportfishing #farmingtonriver #dryflies #euronymphing #browntrout

Derrick’s (CT Fish Guides) client Shanna with one of several large brown trout she landed this past weekend while working on her tight lining. New River Report is up, click the website link on our Bio page.

October is here, and the foliage is starting to pop. Not peak yet, but it’s getting darn pretty out there. The major hatches in October are tan/brown Caddis size 16-18, Isonychia size 10-14, and Blue Winged Olives size 18-24. There are also various other bugs at moments- make sure to click on the River Rport link for very detailed information. It’s definitely streamer time, and in the fall you can fish some bigger ones to appeal to their aggression from the impending spawn later this month. Nymphing is consistent, focus mostly on smaller patterns size 18-22. -Torrey. #upcountrysportfishing #farmingtonriver #dryflies #euronymphing #streamerfishing

Rolling through the second week of September, great flows and weather conditions have kept the fishing decent and very respectable for most anglers. Isonychia, Cahills, and Blue Winged Olives remain the majority of the bugs present on most of the river. Flying ants are also present on warm, humid afternoons as well.

FARIO Refined

The Guideline Fario has been a staple for dedicated trout anglers worldwide for a decade. Modern times bring the ability to refine and improve performance, building on an already great design. We didn’t set out to reinvent, as the original reel served as the blueprint for a new design we’re excited for you all to see.

The new Fario is purpose-built, lightweight, and designed around the needs of modern fly anglers. We carefully optimized its geometry with large arbor diameters and narrower spool widths to improve line handling and retrieval efficiency. All of this is combined with a fully sealed, smooth-running drag system and a stable, lightweight construction.

For the dedicated trout angler searching for the best, the new Fario is here. #itsallabouttheexperience

September had started off with great weather, consistent rains, and decent fishing. Flows currently sit around 255cfs in the permanent TMA on the Farmington. Isonychia, Blue Winged Olives, Cahills, assorted Caddis species, Yellow Sally stoneflies, and flying ants make up the majority of the bugs present on the water throughout the day.
Small stream trout fishing has picked up with the cooler, wet weather, making a fun mixup to take advantage of. Smallmouth and carp fishing has also become hot as well!

I don’t know how or why I ended up at the @catskillflyfishingmuseum - it just happened. Everything that I saw was awesome. They honor the past by brining to light the little things, The Who’s, the whats, the whys and the where’s. The origin of the little things not forgotten. The little things that we adopt into our theories of fishing. The little things that shape and mold the future. We look back and learn The Who’s that are immortalized in the hall of fame the what’s, where’s, and when’s on display for all to see. The why that are taught through teaching in and around the workshop/learning center.

It is inspiration for many. Something like this would be cool in Hawaii.
