Good Morning America! Aufguss Roots USA is officially underway.

October brings the first U.S. residency program, beginning at Grotto Baths Miami — a 10-day education designed to build real in-house knowledge, practice, and confidence around Sauna, Aufguss, and the complete Wellness Experience.

This is more than a workshop, this is Aufguss Roots.

It is the beginning of a deeper education model: rooted in tradition, adapted thoughtfully for the American wellness landscape, and built to live inside the venue after we leave.

We’re proud to begin this chapter with Grotto Baths Miami.

The roots are being planted. 🌱

@skogensrom is a floating, wood-fired sauna on the Telemark Canal, and this year’s Newcomer of the Year from the Norwegian Sauna Associatio @norges_badstulaug .
It’s run by a husband and wife whose family has farmed this land for generations. Book ahead and they’ll make you lunch.
They don’t call it local food. They call it “untraveled food.” I’m still thinking about that
That’s me with the godfather of sweat, @mikkel.aaland , who grew up and lives five minutes away. Both of us in our sauna glasses from @jins.
You can catch a boat and travel up the Tekemark canal’s historic wooden locks to @dalenhotel

@kos.sauna New York state’s first floating Sauna is also great for families. located in Saratoga Springs which has a long history of healing waters and bathhouses. They even serve local mineral water that is high in electrolytes.
Easy trip: train from NYC to Albany, then an hour’s drive
And check out their Programming and they even have family days. And it’s not too expensive to rent out the whole thing for a group.
Kate Butchart opened it about a year ago with with partner and architect Bjørnar Skaar Haveland @bshavel based inOslo. I met some of the staff @tmakenna_ and @opetro who were fantastic and just contribute to the community feeling. And kate wears @saunamekko wool swim suit!!

A mud bath in the salt lakes of Transylvania called Ocna Sibiului. Fifteen lakes, each one with different properties.
They’ve been mining salt here since the bronze age. one of the mines collapsed in the 19th century forming a lake called the bottomless lake, Fără Fund. So dense with salt that you can’t see your own hand under water. .
An Austro-Hungarian spa was established in the 1860s and you can still see the ruins. And my son and I agreed it was one of the best soft serve ice cream creams we’ve ever had.
A $10 entry fee and then half that after 6 PM and it stays open till 10 PM. It’s 15 minutes from Sibiu and then the next day we drove an hour and a half to the Turda salt caves. More on that soon. And the song is by the awesome Loredana, the Madonna of Romania. Or more apt Madonna is the Loredana of the US More on her soon. Have you heard of her? #ocnasibiului #sibiu # #mudbaths #transylvania

@hvammsvik hot springs is, without a doubt, one of the most stunning places I’ve ever spent an evening.

The light, the warmth, the conviviality…
The flow, the floating, the stillness…
The nourishment, the sense of healing, of earth and sea holding you close.

P.S. The post-springs seafood soup served by their cafe somehow exceeds even the raves it already gets - and their Icelandic burrata with watermelon and tomatoes is exceptional as well.
