Behind every statistic about out-of-school children is a child with dreams, fears, and a future at risk.

As I complete the 2026 Journalism for Liberty Fellowship, I’m reflecting on a journey that gave me the opportunity to report on the education crisis facing internally displaced children in Northeast Nigeria.

I was among fellows from Nigeria, and Ghana selected to receive a small reporting grant to investigate why educating displaced children must become a priority. Through the fellowship, I published opinion articles with Nigerian Tribune and TheCable, alongside features on Fatima Ali and other displaced children published by Ripples Nigeria and The Guardian Nigeria.

But I did not stop with publication. For seven consecutive days, I used Instagram and Facebook to advocate for displaced children out of school, calling for greater public attention and action to get them back into classrooms. I wanted to take the conversation beyond the newsroom and ask: What happens to children after insurgency uproots them and interrupts their education?

Social media advocacy alone cannot solve a crisis this deep, but helping people see, understand, and discuss it is one step towards change.

I also recognise the work of UNICEF, Save the Children Nigeria, and the Cuppy Foundation, founded by DJ Cuppy, to expand education opportunities and protect vulnerable children in northern Nigeria. Their work in Borno and Adamawa shows what sustained collaboration can make possible.

At the same time, governments must ensure that access to education does not depend on the presence of a donor or the goodwill of an individual. Displaced children need lasting solutions, adequate school infrastructure, financial support, and opportunities to recover the years of learning they have lost.

I’m grateful to the Liberalist Centre and the Journalism for Liberty Fellowship for the opportunity to learn, report, and contribute to conversations that matter.

The work continues. ❤️

Today, we are in Zull Community, Bauchi State, Nigeria, for the second location of our 2026 International Day of the Girl Child celebration.

In line with this year’s theme, “End Child Marriage and Invest in Girls’ Rights,” we are creating room for the girls’ voices, listening to their experiences, and reminding our communities of the need to protect girls’ rights and give them the opportunity to shape their own futures.

At Pure Impacts, we believe investing in girls means more than talking about their future. It means taking action to protect their rights and ensuring their voices count in decisions that affect their lives.

Across selected communities in Katsina State, children took the lead last month, championing children’s right to education and encouraging families and communities to help children return to school.

Through the Safe Back to School Campaign, @savethechildrenng, in partnership with the @cuppyfoundation, supported children and communities to promote school enrolment and prioritise education. Through the Safe Back to School Campaign, members of the Children’s Parliament stood before parents, community members and leaders to speak about the importance of education

They delivered speeches, performed drama and presented poems, using their own voices to highlight the challenges children face and why every child deserves to be in school and learn safely.

The children’s performances encouraged parents to reflect on their responsibility to support their children’s education. “I have listened to the children and I understand the importance of sending my child back to school. I have taken the pledge and signed it because I want my child to learn and have a better future,” said, a parent.

For the children, being heard was an important part of the campaign. “I want to go back to school because I want to learn, become someone in the future and make my family proud. I am happy to see adults listening to what children are saying,” said, a child participant.

Our Girl Child outreach was a success and it’s all thanks to YOU! 🤍🙏

Thank you to everyone who contributed, volunteered, donated and prayed. Because of you, the girls at Zawan Community School didn’t just receive free pads - they learned about confidence, discipline, career goals & self-employment.

Thank you for helping us educate and empower them. We are so grateful! 🙏

💜 ANOTHER MOTHER'S TESTIMONY: THE IMPACT OF YASA FOUNDATION'S THERAPY PROGRAMME IN SURULERE

At YASA Foundation, every testimony matters because every family has a story, every child deserves an opportunity, and NO ONE SHOULD BE LEFT BEHIND.

Following our physiotherapy and speech therapy sessions for children living with disabilities held yesterday in Surulere, Lagos, another mother has shared her testimony as a beneficiary of the programme.

Her testimony is another reminder of the importance of providing support, care, and hope to children living with disabilities and their families. Every session is an opportunity to make a difference, encourage parents, and support each child's journey towards improved well-being.

Under the humanitarian vision of Dr. Afolashade Shona Aluko, Yeye Bobajiro Oodua, President and Founder of YASA Foundation, we remain committed to promoting disability inclusion and ensuring that families receive the support they deserve.

💜 The journey continues! Our therapy sessions will continue every Saturday at the same venue in Surulere, Lagos.

💚 YASA Foundation — Touching Lives. Raising Hope.

🙏 Watch this mother's testimony, like, comment, share, and follow our pages. Together, let us spread hope, promote inclusion, and ensure that NO ONE IS LEFT BEHIND.

Happy International Day of the Girl Child!

Today, we celebrate every girl, her dreams, her voice, her rights, and the beautiful possibilities her future holds.

At Pure Impact Inspirational Network, we believe every girl deserves the opportunity to learn, grow, feel safe, discover her potential, and become all she dreams of being.

And beyond today, we remain committed to standing with girls, supporting their dreams, advocating for their rights, and creating opportunities for them to thrive.

Our commitment goes beyond words. It's in the actions we take, the lives we touch, and the hope we continue to nurture.
