A special return for California Drought.

After more than two years, California Drought returns from its journey through the United States.

The project began with field research in California, through conversations with climate researchers, park rangers and farmers. These encounters revealed different perspectives on drought, climate change and the evolving relationship between people and landscape.

Translated into a monumental textile artwork, California Drought travelled from San Francisco to New York, connecting stories, places and audiences through colour, material and texture.

A project exploring slow looking, landscape narratives and the role of art as a connecting language for complex environmental challenges.

Thank you to everyone who made this journey possible.

The Weisman's fall exhibition, RUGLIFE, brings together contemporary explorations of the rug, not just as a functional object, but as a platform for cultural storytelling, resistance, memory, and identity. On October 11, nationally celebrated, interdisciplinary artist Sonya Clark will visit the Weisman—on RUGLIFE’s opening day—to speak about her art and practice working across media: hair, beads, combs, textiles, and performance centering African American narratives through craft-based practices.

Other artists featured in the exhibition are: Nevin Aladağ, Azra Aksamija, Ali Cha’aban, Liselot Cobelens, Johannah Herr, Oksana Levchenya, Noelle Mason, Wendy Plomp, Stéphanie Saadé, Slavs & Tatars, Ai Weiwei, and Andrea Zittel.

RUGLIFE is organized by the Museum of Craft and Design, San Francisco, and guest curators Ginger Gregg Duggan and Judith Hoos Fox of c2-curatorsquared.
