The Brooklyn Nets and Liberty just bought three huge sports facilities across Brooklyn.

They took over existing gyms in Greenpoint, Bushwick, and Gowanus, with plans to upgrade and reopen them in 2027. The Bushwick location is the largest at over 20,000 square feet, while Gowanus is a compact 5,000 square feet.

And this isn’t a small side project. They already run a flagship training center right across from Barclays Center, and their programs reach over 50,000 local kids every year through NYC public schools.

They didn’t buy these locations one by one, either. They bought an entire local gym network in one cash deal. That’s why the spaces are so uniqueβ€”the Bushwick building used to print plastic cloth, and the Gowanus spot was an indoor soccer studio.

The timing here is also really interesting. The state is currently reviewing a proposal that could replace that downtown center with two giant towers, with construction modeled to start as early as 2028. So expanding into these three neighborhoods gives their program long-term roots in Brooklyn no matter what happens downtown.
