Familial relationships and an abiding interconnectedness between artist friends are fundamental, guiding forces in 𝘛𝘰 𝘓𝘦𝘢𝘷𝘦 𝘢 𝘔𝘢𝘳𝘬 𝘖𝘯. It is with such joy that we share these images of Charles and Sandy (@curtlemieux's folks) in the gallery next to their work and likeness during the opening week of the exhibition.

We hope you will stop by soon (bring a friend!) and delight in the artwork of Curt, Charles, and Lloyd LeMieux, Amy Green, Asher Hartman, Cecilia Ramón, and Marley Van Peebles. Each of these artists have created a visual language and approach to working with materials that is distinctly their own and rooted in play, curiosity, research, improvisation, and experimentation.

The artists have also invited you to "leave your mark" by responding to one of their questions on the activity cards.

And FREEEEEEE postcards!

𝘛𝘰 𝘓𝘦𝘢𝘷𝘦 𝘢 𝘔𝘢𝘳𝘬 𝘖𝘯 opens July 28 and remains on view through December 11.

The group exhibition was organized by Los Angeles-based artist Curt LeMieux (b. 1972, Superior, WI) with Tweed Museum of Art director Julie Delliquanti. In addition to artworks from three generations of the LeMieux family, the exhibition includes nature-inspired works on paper and wood by UMD Assistant Professor Cecilia Ramón, the materials and process-heavy abstractions of Amy Green, the experimental figuration and storytelling of Asher Hartman, and the instinctual "flat objects" of Marley Van Peebles.

"As artists, we search for resonant connections. We provide each other with a vital sense of purpose and belonging. Our personal visions are made legitimate when they are shared and embraced. Together, we hone the image-making powers of the mind and we forge deep bonds through our mutual devotion,” says LeMieux.

Excerpt from LeMieux’s exhibition introduction:
𝘛𝘰 𝘓𝘦𝘢𝘷𝘦 𝘢 𝘔𝘢𝘳𝘬 𝘖𝘯 features seven individuals whose lives converge over time and have had a profound influence on my life and on my artistic practice. I formed a decades-long friendship with Cecilia Ramón in the early 1990s. We share a mutual understanding that art making processes are directly linked to the value of interconnectedness. Contemporaneously, I work alongside Amy Green, Asher Hartman, and Marley Van Peebles in Los Angeles. Amy and I are preoccupied with materials and processes. Asher, Marley, and I engage anthropomorphic and distorted figuration. They mean the world to me.

“And This”
a performance by Rochelle Fabb & Joan Spitler
as part of Crazy Space Returns organized by MKNstudio.org

Sunday, March 8, 2026
Crazy Space at 18th Street Arts Center
1629 18th St #2, Santa Monica
Showings at 1pm, 3pm and 5pm
Admission is FREE (because performance artists usually don’t get paid anyway)

After 18 years apart, the heartbreaker provocateurs the LA TIMES proclaimed (for reals) should be “brought to the attention of David Lynch” are back to bring you their latest spectacle, “And This.” Experience it now, once, before the curtain closes forever.

Starring Joan Spitler and Rochelle Fabb and introducing Jarred Cairns
Produced by Spitfabbler
Directed by Fabb and Spitler
Organized by MKNstudio.org, Art Department by Marcus Kuiland Nazario
Wall art by Curt LeMieux and Marley Van Peebles
With support from Rachel Rosenthal’s Espace DbD

Rochelle Fabb, a nomadic artist who appeared recently on the scene of the Venice Off Off Biennale in ArtHags and at the Venice Floating Film Festival in Poseidon’s Heels challenges Time, embraces the tightrope and abhors gravity. She is currently exploring the fine art of glitching. Fabb performed with Asher Hartman, Rachel Rosenthal, Marilyn Arsem and her performance ensemble Empire of Teeth.

Joan Spitler, an interstellar artist, has appeared in film and television and designed iconic prop-worthy cakes for the industry while simultaneously juggling the thrilling life of a performance artist. She was a longtime apprentice of Rachel Rosenthal, and member of the Tohubohu improvisation collective. She paints with time, follows joy and loves a good bubble bath.

Jarred Cairns studied and performed with Rachel Rosenthal as a member of Tohubohu and with Rudy Perez and performed in Deborah Oliver's Irrational Exhibits.

Thank you @viola.wav and @brendan_getz for the incredible sound recordings Think As a Mortal Φρονει θνητα in the Gothic Corridor.

We’re playing with time.
The very thing that holds us in motion
Will you play it with me?
A little tune to leave myself with you

As we race across the days together, I wonder what pieces of me you will carry you
Maybe bits of my hopes, little sayings, the exact way I made those cookies
They take on a new shape with you

Split Ends Part 3: I'm very happy to be included in this group of fiber artists. The skill set is immense, yet there's still a looseness, uncontrived quality which I really love. I feel like there's a "feeling out" of the medium that feels fresh...YAY! #fiberartists #artyouwanttotouch
