Nearly finished on a cool little project I took on. This is from the beginning stages and the process it took to give these panels a really subtle marbleized look. Typically marbleizer is applied over a dark base followed by a candy to really contrast each other. The rest of these panels are going to have a lot going on so I thought this would be a good way to break up the background in a way that will take a double take from someone looking at it to see what’s going on.

For those interested in how to get that marbleized look:
1. Apply your base color. As stated above typically you would use a dark color to contrast next steps. I wanted subtlety so I used a similar color to my midcoat.
2. Once base is flashed, in this instance “dehydrated” since it’s a waterborne Envirobase from @ppgrefinish I applied a single wet coat of @customcreativeofficial marbleizer.
3. While still wet I immediately applied some cling wrap plastic over top of the wet marbleizer and patted it down so it had consistent contact to avoid any void areas.
4. Once I was happy with how it looked I pulled the cling wrap off soon after and the plastic did all the work in that short amount of time. This gives it that “webbed crystallized look” that this process is known for.
5. I thoroughly allowed the marbleizer to finish drying since it is a urethane based paint I didn’t want to chance wrinkling by getting on it too soon with the waterborne midcoat. Waterborne typically doesn’t have reactivity problems with other products but you never know when paint is still wet.
6. Following the drying time of the marbleizer I grabbed my midcoat (or candy in other instances) and applied 3 coats to really let the pearls and transparent yellows do their work and make the panel pop combined with the marbleized patterns.

I’m excited to show these guys off soon.

Demon themed airbrushed gas tank for a loyal customer. I’ve been so busy lately with the custom paint jobs and Pinstriping that I haven’t done much mural work until this one! I’m thrilled with how it turned out! Thanks to @paintstands and Conley Paint Stands for making my job easier, @customcreativeofficial and @pbecoatingscorporation for the amazing paint and clear, @iwata_airbrush and @anest_iwata for the tools to create the details, I keep mentioning you but you rarely repost my work, @devilbiss_refinish that DV-1 sure does lay it out like glass! #myrtlebeachharleydavidson #artattackcustomshop #airbrush #custompaintedharley #airbrushmural

Faux Rust is a handcrafted finishing technique that recreates the character of naturally oxidized metal through carefully built layers of paint, color, and texture.

The process begins with multiple tones that are progressively layered to create depth, contrast, and tonal variation across the piece. Each layer is manipulated by hand using brushes, an airbrush, and sponges, creating organic marks, subtle transitions, pigment build-up, and irregular patterns.

For this finish, I used @montana_colors and @customcreativeofficial products, combining their different properties and applications throughout the painting process.

The technique is also influenced by the knowledge and techniques taught by @hector_airbrush , which have been applied and reinterpreted during the development of this piece to create a rough, weathered, and naturally fragmented surface, inspired by the visual character of oxidized metal.

Rather than simply imitating rust, the effect is constructed from the ground up, creating a convincing sense of depth, texture, and materiality through paint alone.

Every mark and every layer is individually applied and controlled by hand, making each piece truly unique and impossible to replicate exactly.
