Incredibly honored to be in Refined Magazine. Kida House has already become so much of what I wanted it to be and more. It’s crazy to think we’ve only been open for 2 months, and how natural and at home I feel with owning a nail salon.

As the article mentions, I simply wanted to refine the nail salon experience. I wanted to represent my community, because even though the nail industry is a big part of Vietnamese culture, Vietnamese nail salons have become synonymous with cheap, tacky, and messy. Being able to prove a Vietnamese-owned salon can be thoughtful, intentional, and refined is something I’m very proud of.

It wasn’t necessarily my intention to change the nail game. It was much simpler than that—create an environment that matched the (sometimes shocking, but when given much thought, very accurate) high price point of nail maintenance. The goal was: keep the business model found at chop shops but make the space look, feel and smell better for our clients.

Because if you’re already going to spend the money, why not do it somewhere that feels chic, inviting and inspiring? Xx, Kim

The atmosphere of your home is imperative to your mental health. When designing my home I asked myself, “what feeling do I want to come home to?” Soothing, peaceful and natural.

I also want my home to be refreshing, contemporary and inspire me—without it feeling cold. My top three descriptors helped me achieve the look and create the energy I had envisioned.

Soothing: neutral colors
Peaceful: modern and minimal (scandi vibes)
Natural: imitated concrete and light oak
