Some seasons are hard to explain while you’re living them.

I’ve just had to get more serious about becoming the version of myself capable of bringing it to life.

“Remembrances of Godfrey”

Doing what I can to be my father’s answer on Earth.

Holding the chain he passed down to me, I think of the stories he told me of growing up in rural Guyana. Singing with his brother, but not having the resources to take it further. Having to then find his way through military service, odd jobs, masculinity, religion, promises, and more. I also never forgot the car ride where compared me to Marvin Gaye, a hero of his time, because he saw that I had the power to say something important to our people through music. We even talked of griots.

It’s 5 years later and I’ll honor him for an eternity.
