Our annual #PoolUpAndPlay found sunkissed cuties enjoying games, waves, and each other at @thelinehotel.

Thank you SO much to everyone who has supported my business this year! It truly means the world to me to have your support and trust to do what I love everyday!

2023 was a big year for me as a business owner.
A lot of change, recognition, supporting my community, learning new things, and growing as a person and provider! I love being able to create a space for us to heal and be seen! Here’s to bigger and better in 2024!

For many LGBTQIA2+ people, "the holidays" hold both painful and pleasant memories.

Regardless of your relationship with bio family, all queer folks need queer community to be truly at home in this world...especially at a time of year where the change in sunlight affects our moods, especially at a time where collective witnessing of global imp...erial..ist vio lence is heightened.

Those of us who come from peoples whose lineages are laden with yeno side know that the horrors are always many, and so is our connectedness. Our capacity to hold each other in breath and creativity—and to define for ourselves what celebration looks like—is part of what gets us through...together.

The chosen family solstice celebration is a casual opportunity for us to breathe together, release together and play together (agenda below). After some intuitive movement, breathwork, reflection, & card pulls, we'll hang out with optional solstice creative activities. Folks are welcome to actively or passively participate or use the space for body-doubling. Good moods optional 💛(yellow heart emoji).

Originally I’d planned to share on these in mid-October after returning from Guadalajara but the timing didn’t feel right. It still doesn’t. But given that this weekend ushers in the second week of December and series of holiday markets the time for you to know they exist is now.

It’s always interesting how art can be de-politicized over time. The iconic Calavera Catrina design comes from 19th century Mexican political cartoonist and lithographer, José Guadalupe Posada. He released the feathered-hat Catrina at the beginning of the Mexican revolution as critique of the bourgeoisie and as commentary that death awaits everyone and that no amount of money and power can change that fact.

Arturo—one of the master artisans I work with in Guadalajara—makes and hand paints the papier-mâché along with his daughters. Then he sets them in sterling silver.

SKEW is an art & culture magazine so when the editorial team started dreaming up how they wanted to celebrate the launch of SKEW 04: Black Embodiment, they knew it would include both art and culture.

Our first launch event featured @mixedgirlflowers beautiful floral design and curator @salimasees modeling for live figure drawing. Along with a set from our fave dj @terrell_.brooke. Huge thanks to @cutiesla, @palmgrovesocial, and @hornitostequila for making it a night to remember ✨

In this period of human experience, with governing societies ever insisting their false vision of Blackness is truth, we ask in this issue, how do you SKEW in the creation of you?

@skewmag is cooperatively owned by the contributors featured in each issue. This means that 100% of proceeds from SKEW sales go directly to support the Black artists who make up this year's SKEW community.

Today is small business Saturday and I am definitely in my feelings. They say small businesses are the back bone of our communities, but yet small businesses are struggling. This year was hard for The Plant Chica, but I know it was also hard for our community. We just wanted to let you know, we are still here! We are still fighting. Our community keeps us going and that’s what I miss the most about this space, ALL of you! On this day, and everyday I encourage you to support your small Local businesses.
