Organics at the 2026 Summit for Recycling will be featured on June 2nd! 🤎 Each Summit session track this year will follow a similar flow this year with an Intro Activity, Digging In panels & workshops, and then a Wrap up. Check out what is included in our organics track: 🪱 Compost Connection Gameshow: Join Eco-Cycle and members of the Colorado Composting Council as we match up Colorado communities with the circular organics solutions they need to move to the next level of food scrap and yard trimming diversion! In this fun and informative game-show-style session, we'll explore policies, programs, and education strategies communities can use to expand composting efforts, reduce food waste, and build local circular organics economies. 🪱 Processing & Contamination: Organics recycling programs can succeed or fail based on contamination control in the SSO stream. This session explores scalable solutions across program lifecycles, emphasizing education, system design, and end-market value. Hear perspectives from processors, municipalities, universities, and advocates on practical strategies, persistent challenges, and building resilient systems from collection to finished compost. 🪱 Programs & Case Studies: Dive in with several Colorado communities on what organics diversion progress looks like in their region. 🪱 Mobile Compost Extractor: High Plains Conservation District has developed a mobile compost extractor trailer, which will allow eastern Colorado agriculture producers the opportunity to experiment with compost products with applications such as replacing neonicotinoid seed treatments, reducing synthetic fertilizers, and improving the nutrient profile of agricultural products. 🪱 Lightning Round: Explore how compost application drives water retention, landscape resilience, and higher crop yields across Colorado and beyond. Hear rapid-fire insights from commercial compost facility experts on building living soils that support sustainable agriculture, conserve water, and strengthen landscapes in challenging climates. It's the simplest thing, and we just can't do it. How do we tackle climate change, oligarchy, pollution, microplastics, AI surveillance, dwindling water and mineral resources, class war and fascism if we can't even ensure trash gets into trash cans? Quick facts: - about 4.5 TRILLION cigarette butts are littered *every year*, by far the highest number of any product. That's 80% of all cigarettes sold and nearly 40% of ALL litter collected. The butts/filters are almost all plastic fibers, are not biodegradable and leech arsenic and lead into soils and waters. They are also eaten by fish, birds and other animals. - 15 BILLION rounds of lead ammo are sold to U.S. civilians each year. Animals such as bald eagles eat lead ammo remnants, poisoning populations. Only Earth's poles are free of direct lead poisoning due to hundreds of years of wars with firearms on every continent. - Globally, humans consume and discard 1 million plastic bottles PER MINUTE, with 50 billion in the U.S. annually. Only 23% of water bottles are recycled, and the thin disposable plastics leach microplastics and other petrochemicals into the water they sell for up to 100x the cost of public water. It's estimated the oceans will contain more items of plastic than fish by 2050. - Programs like glass bottle/aluminum can deposits often result in recycling rates up to 90%, which reduces environmental pollution, public nuisances and manufacturing use of new materials and energy. - U.S. civilians create more trash per capita than any other large country on Earth. - Countries like China and Malaysia are increasingly refusing to accept U.S. plastic trash after years of being paid to take it, because they have become overwhelmed with the negative impacts and toxic byproducts. This has resulted in more "recycled" plastics ending up in U.S. landfills or being *incinerated*, which releases untold amounts of toxic, poisonous chemicals into the air and environment. Tossing bottles in recycling bins does NOT stop them from ending up in landfills. - Capitalism is a ponzi scheme, and the entire human race is the mark

Since 2017 many people have been working hard to organize and spread the message to policy makers that We The People want recycling and composting in Denver, CO. Then in 2022 volunteers were able to secure the thousands of signatures needed to bring the WasteNoMore measure to Denver’s November 2023 ballot for official voting… and we sure showed up to vote!!! Over 70% of Denverites voted yes on 306 to bring composting and recycling to Denver as a mandate for businesses. Now, against the clear demand of constituents, the measure is at risk. That’s why we are asking Denver folks to speak up to Denver’s City Council this September 2025 and ask that they vote to uphold the WasteNoMore measure as amended. Kindly, The Grassroots WNM Team 💚🫶♻️🥑🍾 💗 Find more info within the @wastenomoreden bio links, like instructions on signing up to submit Public Comment and making a public record that we should uphold this measure.
