POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

Storytime 🤗 It’s taken me a minute to reflect because I must say I’m coming off an immense high from this year’s @farmaid experience. Internally, there’s an unmarked calendar date we refer to as “festival season”. This season marked my 4th festival. As you can see in these pics over these 4 seasons , which is actually a mere dent in 40 years of Farm Aid Festival seasons, our beloved community has grown AND remained constant. This year you’ll see Teamsters, representing University workers - janitors, cafeteria workers, fixers and repairers- in our mix. It’s the people that keeps me present, steady and inspired in the midst of deep exhaustion and sometimes despair and uncertainty. I’m in awe of us. June Jordan told the whole truth when she said, “we are the ones we’ve been waiting for”. Really, where’s the lie?! #FarmAid40 is indeed a story of solidarity, of resilience, of community. This one was for Rosa and Kate and so many of our lost warriors who inspire us to continue to fight. We have what we need. Thank you #FarmAid staff, board, community; thank you @willienelsonofficial Carolyn and @glendayoder1_ ; thank you movement; thank you farmers and workers; thank you @rissipalmermusic musicians, artists, storytellers, truth-seekers and culture-keepers. Thank you my light @anansi_me @shirletteammons and Ammons family - here and gone 🥹 And everyone who believes in JUSTICE. We have what we need 🤎🤎🤎

Our exhibit How the Light Gets Gold opens May 2 at Eno Arts Mill. This installation was inspired by ancient Greek Healing Temples, and we thought you might enjoy a peek behind the scenes of how an installation gets created with the help of a dozen artists in the collective! Swipe for more info ➡️

Words are powerful but sometimes they just don’t give the experience the justice it’s due
#FarmAid2024 Wasn’t only about intersectionality. It was also about alignment, the country way of being on one accord. Not just hindsight but foresight, looking intensely forward and building strategies together. Not just storytelling but signifying and witnessing, deep hearing, listening and constant exchanging. Overwhelming joy and persistence of will. The make-do spirit of rural people was in full effect. We were among trailblazers who we would have no path laid before us without their work and their presence. Our board artists/advocates SHOWED UP in both their words and their powerful artistry. What a gift #FarmAid2024 has been! What a gift the Farm Aid staff and community has been and continues to be! So much amazing work formulating with so much more to share and say. But the most important words for now are THANK YOU! Thank you mama for taking her first plane ride for @farmaid 🥹 and @anansi_me @shirletteammons and all the fam that made the trek and my chosen fam and loved on ones who also made the journey from NC and NY 🥰 THANK YOU @willienelsonofficial 💚#FarmAid2024 out ✌🏾

Creative energy is in the air! We met with the newest members of the WeAreHere exhibit team: Sound and Experience Designer (and longtime collaborator) Michael Betts, as well as baby Remy, who loved the artistic explorations but protested loudly when we started on the budget. We are super excited to be working with Michael again—imagine the human body as a conductive medium then add sound. So much potential!

WeAreHere: Imagining a World Without Sexual Violence Exhibit UPDATE!

Last weekend, the HV project team began shooting portraits of some of the remarkable people who initiated this project ten years ago to serve as the icons, the Goddess Protectors, and the warriors of the exhibit. Inspired by Ancient Greek healing temples, this immersive, interactive installation draws on the power of community as a healing force for mutual transformation. Pictured here are our force-of-nature photographers @zoraholivia and @shankelphoto who are collaborating with our Goddess Protectors in the studio to portray their stories, their healing, and their reclaimed power.

Stay tuned for more behind-the-scenes process updates!

Today's image catches a behind-the-curtain look at our upcoming project! Collaborators from the Hidden Voices Collective joined Lynden Harris, our Founder and Director, at Mad Hatters Café to dream up crucial elements of our newest exhibit. WE ARE HERE: Imagining a World Without Sexual Violence is an immersive, interactive exhibit set to debut in 2024. Centering on stories of sexual violence and the power of healing, WE ARE HERE invites our community to understand sexual violence, enter into a space that embodies healing and safety, and imagine our world through a different lens. We can't wait to share more details with you!

One of the greatest gifts of our 20 years at Hidden Voices has been the immense diversity and creativity of the artists we’ve gotten to collaborate with! From performers to writers to painters to photographers to audio and lighting designers, Hidden Voices has worked with HUNDREDS of artists over the past two decades! We are so grateful for the vision, art, and talent that each of these artists has brought to the work.
