✨ NEW PUBLICATION ALERT — #7 IN ONE YEAR! ✨ Another major peer-reviewed publication for Dr. Melinda Lacerna Kimbrell—this time providing prospective human-tissue evidence examining what happens beneath the skin after Renuvion® subdermal helium plasma radiofrequency treatment. Published in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery–Global Open, this prospective clinical study evaluated patients undergoing lower facelift surgery. Renuvion was applied to designated subdermal areas, with untreated areas in the same patients serving as internal controls. Seven patients were enrolled, with six completing the 180-day evaluation. 🔬 At 180 days, treated tissue demonstrated: • 30% ↑ elastin fiber density • 55% ↑ elastin staining intensity • 27% ↑ incidence of elastin expression • 34% ↓ inflammation • Favorable dermal remodeling without significant fibrosis • High patient satisfaction with visible improvements in skin elasticity, youthfulness and radiance Why does this matter? A facelift repositions and supports deeper facial tissues—but skin quality matters too. This study provides quantifiable histologic evidence that subdermal Renuvion treatment was associated with favorable changes in biological markers of skin quality months after treatment. And another milestone: this marks Dr. Lacerna’s 7th publication in a major peer-reviewed journal in just the past year! 🎉 Kimbrell ML, Holcomb JD. Histological Evaluation of Human Skin Biopsies Following Subdermal Helium Plasma Radiofrequency Treatment. Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery–Global Open. 2026;14(9):e8116. Science. Innovation. Better understanding of the biology behind beautiful results. 🔬✨ #drlacerna #Renuvion #extendeddeepplanefacelift #plasticsurgery facelift

The umbilicus is a key component contributing to the overall aesthetics of the abdomen, and preserving its shape throughout healing deserves thoughtful postoperative management. One potential concern following abdominoplasty is umbilical stenosis—progressive narrowing of the umbilical opening as the tissues heal and scar contraction occurs. There are several approaches to postoperative umbilical support. In my clinical practice, one option I often prefer is a simple foam earplug. But there is more to the technique than simply placing an earplug into the umbilicus. When appropriate, I may begin by gently mobilizing the tissue and assessing the opening. The foam earplug is then individually sized and trimmed according to the patient’s anatomy and stage of healing. The goal is not to force an entire earplug into the space. Once compressed and placed, the foam gradually expands. This provides soft, circumferential support while allowing the material to conform to the individual shape of the healing umbilicus. Additional advantages include: ✨ Easily customized for the individual patient ✨ Soft, conforming material rather than a rigid spacer ✨ Gradual expansion after placement ✨ Inexpensive and readily available ✨ Easily replaced to support good hygiene As always, postoperative management should be coordinated with and follow the recommendations of the operating surgeon. 📚 For additional evidence, feel free to review the 2019 publication available through PubMed. The link is in my bio. 💬 How do you approach postoperative umbilical support? I’d love to hear your thoughts in the comments. Understanding the patient. Understanding the biology. ✨The pyramids weren’t built overnight… and neither are lasting surgical outcomes. As more providers incorporate postoperative care into their practice, it’s important to recognize that not every cosmetic procedure heals the same. When Renuvion® is used during surgery, the addition of controlled subdermal thermal energy changes the tissue response and influences the healing process. While the principles of healing remain the same, the clinical presentation and recovery progression may differ from liposuction alone. That’s exactly why I developed the ILP® Clinical Recovery Protocol™—a Renuvion-approved, evidence-informed protocol designed to help providers better understand tissue response, make informed clinical decisions, and progress treatment based on how the patient is healing, not simply where they are on the calendar. 📩 Comment “Renuvion” below and I’ll send you a complimentary copy of the Renuvion-approved ILP® Post-Renuvion® Clinical Recovery Protocol™. 🎙️ Then join Christian Winkle and me for an upcoming Instagram Live, where we’ll continue the conversation about: • Renuvion® • AYON™ • Tissue Remodeling • Postoperative Recovery Understanding the patient.
