13,500 KM + $16,353 RAISED! 🎉

We started Joy in Motion with a big goal: move 10,000 km and raise $10,000 in 90 days in support of Ally Global and Cycle 5 to Survive.
And wow, did you ever show up. 💛.

19 participants, joyful kilometres walked, run, cycled, kayaked and more — plus so many incredibly generous donors — took us well beyond both of our goals.

Together, we moved 13,500 km and raised an incredible $16,353!

THANK YOU to everyone who moved, donated, encouraged and joined us for this joyful journey. We truly couldn’t have done it without you.

And one last bit of Joy in Motion… 🧦
The newest edition of Ray’s socks will be shipping soon! We ordered a few extras, so there’s still time to make a donation and get a pair for your next adventure.

Live joyfully. Give joyfully. Keep moving hope forward. 💛

At Hope for Korah, our elders hold a special place in our community. Their lives have been shaped by many experiences, and there is so much we can learn from them.

Recently, a group of elders from the Korah community gathered to give a special blessing at the beginning of our @cycle5tosurvive event. It was a beautiful reminder of the generations that came before us and the important role they continue to play in the lives of those around them.

Today, on International Day of Older Persons, we are so thankful for our elders and for the wisdom and blessing they bring.

@oisinmchughphoto commemorating day one and helping me remember how oh so special it was. This was over six months, 25lbs, and 14,000 km ago. I left the Terry Fox Statue in front of BC Place surrounded by so many I love.

Being alone is tough for myself and my mental health. But staying strong and present is so important. It's also important to know that it's okay to not be okay. Reach out to those around you and when you have the space be there for them, too.

Much love to everyone. Here's to the next leg. For the bees, baby!

The Berta Breakfast Program is one of the most loved programs in Korah! It is a favourite place for visitors—like P.L. Meindertsma—to spend their mornings serving breakfast and soaking in the smiles and joy of children enjoying a healthy meal before heading to school.

This summer, we have expanded the program to include 50 additional children and several adults from our community who have lost their homes during the current housing destruction. In the midst of great uncertainty, this support has provided some stability and practical help to families who are struggling deeply right now, while also allowing us to reach even more people in our community with care and compassion.

Today, we celebrate World Youth Skills Day, a reminder of the importance of equipping young people with the skills they need for employment, meaningful work, and entrepreneurship.

At Hope for Korah, we believe every young person deserves the opportunity to discover their potential. Through tutoring, mentoring, life skills training, education sponsorship, leadership opportunities, and other youth initiatives, we strive to provide a safe and supportive place where young people can learn, grow, and prepare for brighter futures.

When young people are given the opportunity to develop their skills, they gain confidence, purpose, and hope, not only transforming their own lives, but also strengthening their families and communities.

What an unforgettable day!

Cycle 5 To Survive’s big launch day in Ethiopia began in Korah, where a huge crowd of friends from the community gathered to cheer on P.L. and Kristen Meindertsma as they set off on their incredible journey. Their 6,600 km cycling adventure will take them all the way to Cape Town. We wanted to send them off in a meaningful way as they begin this epic adventure, raising funds and awareness for five charities—including Hope for Korah!

The morning was filled with music, celebration, warm-up exercises, and a special blessing from elders in the Korah community. P.L. and Kristen were also presented with gabis, traditional Ethiopian blankets that symbolize deep respect and honour.

After a 10 km ride through Addis Ababa, they crossed the finish line at the historic Adwa Memorial Victory Park, where another joyful celebration awaited them. Supporters, friends, and members from partner organizations, along with government officials, representatives from the Authority of Civil Society Organizations, and the Commissioner of the Addis Ababa Police Department, gathered to mark this memorable occasion. The event was hosted by the well-known Ethiopian TV personality Mr. Zik and featured the premiere of a Hope for Korah documentary, inspiring speeches, testimonies from Hope for Korah university students, and a traditional Ethiopian coffee ceremony.

We are so grateful for the incredible awareness this event brought to Hope for Korah and our mission.

A heartfelt thank you to the Commercial Bank of Ethiopia for generously sponsoring this amazing event. Thank you as well to the talented team at @omniiicore for beautifully capturing the day through your photography and videography. Finally, a huge thank you to our incredible Country Director, Sosena, and our dedicated Hope for Korah staff. Your planning and hard work made this celebration a truly memorable day.

Please continue to pray for P.L. and Kristen as they continue their journey across Africa. We’re cheering them on every kilometre of the way!

What a joy it was to welcome @cycle5tosurvive to Ethiopia!

P.L. and Kristen Meindertsma officially kicked off their African cycling adventure in Korah, and it was a day we will never forget. Our Korah community came together with so much joy and excitement to celebrate as they set off on their very first ride across Addis Ababa.

Joined by more than 50 cyclists from the surrounding community and members of the Ethiopian Cycling Federation, they rode from Korah Road to Addis Ababa's historic Adwa Victory Memorial Park.

At the finish line, the celebration continued as we welcomed government officials, media representatives, and special guests for a ceremony marking the beginning of this incredible journey.

What an unforgettable day filled with encouragement and hope! We can't wait to share more highlights with you soon. Stay tuned.

A big shout-out to @omniiicore for capturing this special event through your photography and videography, and for putting together this wonderful media clip.

We also extend our sincere thanks to @commercialbankofethiopia for sponsoring this event.

From all of us at Hope for Korah—thank you for helping make this memorable day possible!
