Life is not measured by the number of breaths we take, but by the moments that take our breath away. 🌌✨

For the past couple months now, I’ve been helping @unitpitt produce a very special show 🌟🎈🎂❣️ “50: Half a Century of UNIT/PITT” brings together 50 years of emerging art, critical inquiry, and cultural heritage as celebration, as exhibition, and 184 heaping pages (!!!) of publication as one of the city’s most enduring artist-run centres.

There’s nothing I love more than working with an archive of posters and ephemera. Here, was where I found records of U/P’s 1988 exhibition “Visioning Palestine”: the first of any arts programming on Palestine to my knowledge, that took place in 80s so-called “vancouver”. In @noorghzl ‘s words, “[a]s much as I’m warmed by the multigenerational persistence towards justice, I’m frustrated and sad that these conversations are still happening decades later” (from the publication, p. 141).

HUGE thank you to the U/P team for your unending trust, patience, and collaboration in what is arguably the biggest, most significant, and most fulfilling projects I’ve independently delivered to date. An entire identity system, series of posters and invitations, bookmarks, merch, collectibles, and my first, cover-to-cover book design project…🥁 “UNIT IS U” (!!!) full of musings, memories, and contributions by legends including Dana Claxton, david-george, Carel Moiseiwitsch—JUST to name a few…

Tomorrow evening, Friday November 7th (7-11pm), come as you are (free!!!) and celebrate 50th birthday bash featuring live audio and visual archival interventions by Kaila Bhullar ( @yelllo.www ) and Jefferson Alade ( @jalade__ ), to be continued with an evening of open decks and DJ’ing carried by Alade himself. Snack, sip, and ki in their newly renovated, Yves-Klein-Blue-painted-exterior Kits space—and of course—a smoke in the ever so gorgeous Pitt garden 🌷

Hope to see you there ⸜(｡˃ ᵕ ˂ )⸝♡

(& a very special thank you to @kirakirawho for some of the pix in this photoset :’))

Still processing Saigon. This trip meant a lot to me - finding family, uncovering histories, planting seeds for a new project… will be back soon 🌝

It takes a village, and our village is pretty incredible. This community proved just how much they Give a Fig by showing up in ways big and small to make this shoot one of our best ever. Keep your eyes peeled for the stunning results.
