On August 4, 2020 at 6:07 PM, my home country Lebanon🇱🇧 went through one of its worst tragedies. The Beirut Port explosion left 300,000 people homeless, killed over 200 people, and left every lebanese soul with a heartbreak of 10452 km².

After coming to the US, I witnessed firsthand how the Middle East is misconstrued and misunderstood. I always wanted to dedicate my work to my country and culture. I aspired to bring the most authentic and accurate representation of my people to the rest of the world.
Through the distorted lens of Western media and the lack of understanding of Middle-Eastern culture, the public has too often reduced the Middle East to a monolithic battleground where tragedies and deaths are taken as the norm. It is not, and it never should be. My people are among the strongest and most resilient fighters. Their stories deserve to be told through their truths, their reality and their remarkable resiliency, I am honored to have had a support system that allowed me to tell that story. Thank you to every person that helped me achieve this project.

Under the Ashes تحت الرماد part 1

Where do I begin?
I don’t know how to start talking about the past 2 weeks. From the people I talked to, worked with, and became friends with to the success I achieved, the knowledge I gained and mistakes I learned from, this was an experience I will never forget. I broke down into tears saying I can’t do this for more times that I can count.
A day before my flight, my only traveling partner from Boston who was familiar with my project got Covid. I got on the plane terrified by the idea that I will be leading this whole project on my own in a country where I have zero film connections and contacts. I was about to work with people who are older than me and be their leader for the first time in my life.
I had to carry my vision and stick with it no matter how scared and unsure I was. To be honest, I don’t know how I did it. But my cast, crew and incredible friends who stepped in and helped me when I needed them are what helped me going. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for helping me bring this story to life.
Thank you for every $ that was donated and for every person who believed in my vision. This is OUR film, this is our first achievement, so cheers to us!
