@cbcfinc #alc 2026 | Saturday Edit

@the.root + @ashley_r_allison were grateful to have joined the Omidyar Network Brunch in Celebration of Resilience, Truth, Courage and Wisdom. So many partners doing and funding great democracy work across the country! Shout out to @michelelawjawando for all the things, always 🥰

Many thanks to @cyreenaba @1803fund for hosting me at the @cbcfinc ALC gala. It's always a good time with a table full of Black Oregonians (+ friends 😜). We closed the weekend at the Tech Noir party.

Cheers to all of the @cbcfinc staff, CBC Chiefs of Staff and teams for getting us all through the weekend! That's a wrap until next year!

Spent the day touring the Low End area of Albina on foot and by boat. The @1803fund team asked guests to think 250 years into #Portlands future. Thinking that far ahead means moving past just identifying projects but instead thinking about how can we invest in the infrastructure that will support generations to come.

The last Wednesday of August is this week. Excited to partner with the fam over at @1803fund for our annual co-ed “Da Gathering” event. We will provide the space and a DJ @djashe_ashe, you bring yourself, some ideas about the future you want to see in the Low End and your wallet to support some local Black businesses as we celebrate the end of Summer.

Like all “Da Gathering” events we welcome all who identify as Black AND are 21+.

See you Wednesday!

@1803fund is reinvesting in our Albina community to make sure Black Portlanders always have a place to thrive. Black women lead the work at 1803 and in a true reflection of them, they created a beautiful and safe place to have a joyful night. #1803fund

As we look back on the Road to TENure documentary screening tour, we’re overwhelmed with gratitude.

Thank you to every venue that opened its doors, every scholarship donor who invested in a student’s future, every DJ who played a record, every bartender who poured a drink, every designer who created a graphic, every printer who made the merch, every panelist who shared their wisdom, every photographer who captured a moment and every person who helped spread the word about what we’re building for the future of HBCUs.

Special thanks to our presenting sponsor, @USTA, for believing in this mission and helping us bring these conversations, connections and opportunities to communities across the country.

The students are our why and the village that makes this work possible is our how.

With gratitude,

George & Lauren

We built HBCU SpringComing to be a revival; to remind us of the feeling we had on the yard. For so many of us, as alumni, making it back for annual campus celebration is increasingly difficult. So when we get together (if 2 or 3 are gathered) it feels like home…coming.

For the first year, we brought HBCU SpringComing to Portland and according to our hosts, panelists and attendees, we’ll be back!

Thank You Portland!
The Road to TENure continues.

Last week, we were ecstatic to honor 3 distinguished SMA alumnae at the St. Mary's Academy Awards. Cyreena Boston Ashby '98, Dorothy Serres Canavan '55, and Monica Niedermeyer Denler '94 spent the day on campus, where they took part in a student panel and sat down for interviews in the new Mary Shindler Boyle '67 Center for Women's Leadership, Entrepreneurship, and Innovation broadcast studio with our podcast club before the evening event. We are so proud of Cyreena, Dorothy, and Monica—three shining examples of what it means to carry forward our SNJM Mission!👏

Today is my last day as CEO of @girlsincpnw as I depart for a new leadership role. My departure has been announced publicly, but this is a personal post!

There are hundreds of photos I could share from this role, but these are new favorites with just some of our staff. ❤️

What began as a consulting recommendation from @thesharidunn.com6 truly blossomed into a multi-year appointment at such an incredible organization that profoundly developed my executive career and commitment to mission leadership.

Thank you to our Volunteers, Staff, and Board of Directors including Board Chairs Julie Kearney, Mary Kay Petersen and Jessica Hewitt. You all are a dream team, and I will support our mission always. I also thank you @girlsinc and our funders and community-based partners both far and wide for our impact together.

Grace Malango-Blake is now our Interim CEO. Grace and I have worked together leading our strong, smart and bold mission with Grace as our recent Chief Programs Officer. For over six years Grace has been a part of our leadership team, leading various programs to realize our enrichment to thousands of youth each year in Oregon and Washington. Grace’s background began in youth program management over fifteen years ago, and her executive appointment is well deserved. I am elated for her!

And to all who have supported me and this great mission - thank you...

I look forward to sharing my professional news soon!
