Femme
Dir. Nina Noël Raaijmakers
Screened for Final Girls Berlin Film Festival

After her first, uncomfortable sexual experience the body of the young woman Fem is undergoing disturbing changes.

I first got to experience Femme at Mayhem Film Festival back in October 2025 and to see it again as part of Final Girls Berlin has reminded me of just how incredible this body horror short truly is.

Fem has recently joined a shared dormatory and in a terrifying initiaition, their new flatmates insist the bedroom door be removed. To regain privacy, they must sleep with someone. This is a truly harrowing premise; to not only be thrown into the unknown at shared accommodation but then be humiliated and pressured into an act such as this is unimaginable.

With a theme of reclaiming the power of your body after the choice has been ripped away, this short truly hits where it needs to. It's raw in the approach of tackling this, both in narrative and the body horror that unfolds.

A hazy yellow colour palette washes over the film with a warm glow, acting as a visual counter balance for the inescapable dark undertones. I loved the practical effects too; adding a layer of viscera to perfectly encapsulate the traumatic experiences of Fem.

Nola Elvis Kemper is great as Fem; I couldn't help but feel for her character. However like every true final girl, she comes out swinging in the end. If you're a fan of empowering filmmaking with a body horror edge, be sure to add Femme to your watchlist.

@cyril__jansen and I found this cool flutter-sound on our way back from @sonicdaysconf in Denmark 🇩🇰

To show off what we do as sound designers, i made a little re-design for this chase scene from @themandalorian using the flutter as a starting point for the seismic charge explosion 💥

I had a lot of fun! Hope you enjoy :)

Had the chance to work with @devonwerkharder . Yes, from Ned’s Declassified School Survival Guide, Greek and Beneath the Darkness! 🎬

At first, a total shock but a chance I had to grab with both hands.
It came right after running my marathon, so I had to rest, recharge, and go full throttle again.

My first role in English and sh*t… that’s a whole different game! You want to deliver, avoid mistakes, and end up putting extra pressure on yourself.
Pronunciation, emotion, tonation… you name it!

But the team had my back, gave me trust and I think I delivered. 🙏
Thank you for this amazing experience.

@yordiwerksome made it happen 🙌🏿

On to more!

got to work some incredible young actors and filmmakers in Amsterdam last week, self-producing a short film with my brother @yordiwerksome • inspired by the artists who continue to strive for greatness, and by the creative communities who continue to come together. I’m still learning every time I get on set, still falling and rising to the occasion. Too many stories to recount. Too many moments of courage and generosity to name. Thank you to everyone for showing up to the circus. I’d choose this any day of the week. (not pictured, about a dozen mental breakdowns, and some cast and crew I didn’t have good photos for) •••
I learned a lot this week about possibilities. My question to those of you frustrated or stagnant in your creativity, what would it look like to greenlight yourself? What if you just made the thing? And the next thing? And the next? Keep going…. #filmmaking #film #amsterdam
