What Happens When We Stop Asking People To Simply “Run Their Race” And Actually Give Them The Tools To Navigate It? 🎙️🏃🏾‍♂️‍➡️🏃🏾‍♀️‍➡️🏁

This Clip With Laurie Washington Is A Perfect Way To Close Out Her Episode Because We Get To The Heart Of What Run Your Race Is Really About.

Laurie Understands That Everyone Doesn’t Start With The Same Resources, Access, Confidence, Or Support System. And Sometimes The Individuals Who Could Benefit The Most From Development Opportunities May Not Have The Budget Or Infrastructure To Access Them Directly.

So Instead Of Waiting For The Need To Find The Solution, Laurie Has Been Intentional About Working With Organizations That Already Have Talent In Place And Creating Opportunities To Help Those Individuals Elevate From Within.

Through Run Your Race, Laurie Focuses On Professional Skill Development, Career Enhancement, Understanding Your “Why,” And Helping People Become More Intentional About How They Show Up In Their Work And Their Lives.

But It Goes Deeper Than Individual Development.

Healthy Organizations Require Healthy Cultures.

Understanding How People Communicate, What Motivates Them, Where They Need Support, And What Keeps Them Engaged Is Critical To Building An Environment Where Talent Can Actually Thrive.

That’s The Space Laurie Is Creating.

Not Just Helping People Find The Finish Line, But Helping Them Understand The Course, Build The Skills, And Become Better Equipped To Navigate It.

If You’re An Organization Looking To Invest In Your People, Strengthen Your Workforce, Develop Talent, Or Create A Healthier Culture, Run Your Race Is A Conversation Worth Having.

And If You’re An Individual Still Trying To Figure Out Your Next Move, Your “Why,” Or How To Elevate Yourself Professionally…

Your Race Is Still Yours To Run.

Being Technically Sound Might Get You In The Door… But What Helps You Move Through The Room? 📈

Laurie Washington Continues To Unload Gems In This Conversation!

We Often Call Them “Soft Skills,” But There’s Nothing Soft About The Skills That Can Determine How You Communicate, Lead, Collaborate, Navigate Conflict, Build Relationships, And Show Up When The Pressure Is On.

Having The Technical Knowledge Is Only Part Of The Equation.

The Bigger Challenge Is Understanding How To Translate That Knowledge Into Presence, Confidence, Awareness, And Impact.

Laurie Also Highlights Why Intentional Conversations Around Representation Matter. It’s Not Enough To See People From Different Backgrounds Enter The Room. We Should Be Creating The Conversations, Development, And Opportunities That Help People Move Beyond Simply Being Present And Give Them A Real Chance To Elevate ‼️

Because Getting Your Foot In The Door Is One Thing…

Knowing How To Navigate, Grow, And Advance Once You’re There Is Another.

That’s Where Run Your Race Becomes A Differentiator.

Laurie Has Created A Space Designed To Help People Develop The Skills, Perspective, Confidence, And Support Needed To Keep Moving Toward Their Own Finish Line.

Sometimes People Don’t Need Someone To Run The Race For Them.

They Need Someone Who Knows How To Help Them Navigate The Course 🔥

And That’s What Real Development Looks Like.

Learn The Skills. Build The Confidence. Find Your People. Keep Moving.

In This Clip, Laurie Washington Reflects On A Major Milestone—25 Years As A Member Of @dstinc1913 —And The Impact That Community Has Had Throughout Her Personal And Professional Journey.

What Stood Out To Me Wasn’t Just The Longevity Of The Affiliation. It Was The Power Of Having A Trusted Community That Can Move With You Through Different Seasons, Different Cities, Different Environments, And Different Levels Of Your Career.

When You Build Relationships Rooted In Trust, Those Connections Don’t Just Disappear When You Relocate Or Enter A New Chapter.
They Can Become A Source Of Guidance.
A Source Of Perspective.
A Source Of Opportunity.
And Sometimes, The Voice You Need To Help You Navigate A Room You Haven’t Been In Before.
That’s The Difference Between Simply Having A Network And Actually Having Community.

Laurie’s Journey Is A Reminder That Professional Growth Doesn’t Happen In Isolation. The People You Learn From, Lean On, And Pour Into Can Help You Move With More Confidence And Awareness—Especially When You’re Navigating Spaces That May Be Unfamiliar.

Build A Community That Can Grow With You. Build Relationships That Can Travel With You. And When You Get Into The Room, Make Sure You’re Bringing Someone Else With You.
Because Sometimes Being A Step Ahead Isn’t About Having All The Answers…
It’s Having The Right People Around You To Help You Find Them 🔥

A Consistent Paycheck Can Feel Like Security… Until You Realize You’ve Stopped Growing 🤔

Career Stability Is Valuable. But Stability And Complacency Aren’t The Same Thing‼️

In This Conversation, Laurie Washington Challenges Us To Take An Honest Look At Where We Are Professionally And Ask A Question That Can Be Uncomfortable:

“Am I Still Growing Here, Or Am I Just Comfortable Here?”

There May Be Cookie-Cutter Approaches To Certain Parts Of Your Career, But Your Growth Doesn’t Have To Follow A Script 🔥

Sometimes The Scariest Thing About Exploring Your Potential Is Knowing You Have A Steady Paycheck, A Familiar Environment, And A Routine That Feels Safe.

But What Happens When The Opportunities To Learn, Advance, Lead, Or Expand Your Skillset Have Reached Their Ceiling?

Laurie Encourages Professionals To Keep Their Eyes On The Market Every Two To Three Years. Not Because You Have To Leave, But Because You Should Understand Your Market Value, Stay Aware Of Industry Movement, Continue Building Relevant Skills, And Know What The Next Level Requires.

Continuous Improvement Isn’t Just About Getting A Promotion. It’s About Making Sure You Don’t Outgrow Your Own Potential While Standing Still.

Your Career Is Yours To Own.

Stay Curious. Stay Market-Aware. Keep Learning. Keep Evolving.

And Most Importantly…

Don’t Let Comfort Convince You That You’ve Reached Your Ceiling.

Another Gem From Laurie. Another Reminder To Keep Perfecting Your Progression ✅

You Were Trained To Compete, But Were You Trained To Transition? 🤔

We Grow Up Dreaming About The Next Level.

The Next Team.
The Next Scholarship.
The Next Season.
The Next Opportunity.

And There’s Nothing Wrong With That.

But Somewhere Along The Way, We Have To Understand That Talent Alone Doesn’t Guarantee The Journey We Envisioned.

Your God-Given Ability Might Open The Door… But Your Discipline, Preparation, Mentality, And Willingness To Evolve Will Determine How Long You’re Able To Stay In The Room 💡

That Reality Can Hit Hard When The Sport You’ve Dedicated Most Of Your Life To Suddenly Starts Asking A Different Question:

“Who Are You Outside Of This?”
That’s Where The Conversation Gets Real.

For Some Athletes, The Transition Happens Gradually. For Others, It Happens Overnight. And Unfortunately, Not Everyone Has Been Equipped With The Mentorship, Guidance, Exposure, Or Life Skills Necessary To Navigate That Shift With Confidence.

The Game May Have Taught You How To Compete…
But Who Taught You How To Adapt?

Who Helped You Understand Your Skills Beyond The Field?
Who Challenged You To Explore Other Purposes?
Who Helped You Build An Identity That Could Survive Beyond The Scoreboard?

Because Being A High-Level Performer Isn’t Just About Performing At A High Level In Your Sport.

It’s About Becoming Adaptable Enough To Perform In Life.

To Every Current Athlete: Keep Chasing The Dream. Keep Working. Keep Perfecting Your Craft.

But At The Same Time, Start Investing In The Person Behind The Athlete.

And To Every Former Athlete Still Figuring Out What’s Next:

Your Story Didn’t End When The Game Did.

There Are Still More Purposes To Discover, More Skills To Develop, More Rooms To Enter, And More Impact For You To Make.

Sometimes The Next Level Isn’t Another Playing Field.

Sometimes It’s Life Asking You To Find A New One.

Keep Evolving. Keep Adapting. Keep Perfecting Your Progression 🔥

Sunday Reminder: Your Relationships Can Take You Places Your Resume Never Will. 💡🙏🏾

Laurie Washington Shared A Line In This Conversation That Really Stuck With Me:
“Relationships Are The Currency Of Life.”
And There’s A Deeper Meaning Behind That.

Building Relationships Isn’t Just About Knowing People. It’s About Being Intentional Enough To Understand How You Can Pour Into Someone While Also Being Open To Receiving, Learning, And Growing From The Relationship In Return.

Sometimes Helping Someone Is The Very Thing That Builds The Trust That Eventually Creates An Opportunity.
But Here’s The Part We Don’t Talk About Enough...

Being Present Isn’t Always Enough.
You Can Show Up. You Can Do The Work. You Can Have The Credentials. You Can Knock On The Door.
But Sometimes, You Still Need Someone In Your Corner Who Can Say, “I Know This Person. Let Them In.”

Identifying The Gatekeepers Can Be Complicated, But Understanding Who Has Influence, Who Believes In You, And Who Is Willing To Advocate For You Can Completely Change How You Navigate Your Next Step.
And The Same Goes Both Ways.

Be The Person Who Opens The Door For Someone Else.
Build Relationships. Add Value. Become An Advocate. And Don’t Be Afraid To Ask For One When You Need It.
Because Sometimes The Breakthrough Isn’t About Working Harder...
It’s About Understanding The People, The Relationships, And The Pathway That Can Help You Get There 🔥🔥

You Don’t Have To Have It All Figured Out To Be On The Right Path. 🤔

One Of The Biggest Misconceptions We Carry Into Adulthood Is That We’re Supposed To Have A Perfectly Mapped-Out Plan From The Beginning.

Think About College. You Step Onto Campus At 18, 19, Or 20 Years Old And Somehow Feel Like You’re Supposed To Know Exactly What You Want To Study, What Career You Want, And Who You’re Going To Become.

But For A Lot Of People, The First Couple Of Years Are Really About Exploring, Experimenting, Failing, Learning, And Figuring Yourself Out.

And That’s Okay!

What I Also Want To Challenge Is The Illusion That People Who Eventually Reach High Levels Of Success Somehow Skipped That Uncertainty & They Didn’t.

The Executive. The Entrepreneur. The Athlete. The Creative. The Leader.
At Some Point, They Were All Standing In A Room Wondering, “What’s Next?”

That’s One Of The Reasons I Love Bringing Different People Onto This Platform. I Don’t Just Want To Highlight The Finished Product. I Want To Highlight The Confusion, The Pivots, The Doubt, The Lessons, And The Decisions That Happened In Between.

Because Progress Isn’t Always A Straight Line.

Sometimes You Have To Get Lost A Little To Discover What Actually Belongs To You.

Give Yourself Permission To Figure It Out. Keep Moving. Keep Learning. Keep Becoming.

That’s The Beauty Of Perfecting Progression 🔥🔥

What If Your Greatest Contribution Isn’t About Retiring... But Rewiring? 🤔

One Of The Biggest Takeaways From This Conversation With Laurie Washington Is That Growth Doesn’t End When One Chapter Closes—It Evolves Into A New Opportunity To Serve, Lead, And Create Impact.

In This Clip, Laurie Challenges The Way We Think About Career Transitions, Leadership, And The Responsibility We Have To Leave Every Space Better Than We Found It.

She Speaks To The Reality That Passion Is Often Misunderstood By Those Who Haven’t Taken The Time To Understand The Vision. She Reminds Us That Advocating For Underrepresented Voices Isn’t Just Meaningful—It’s Necessary. Because Representation Doesn’t End At Getting A Seat At The Table... It Continues By Creating Opportunities For Others To Pull Up A Chair.

We Also Dive Into Why Organizations Must Be Intentional About Looking Beyond Traditional Talent Pipelines. The Next Great Leader, Innovator, Or Difference Maker May Already Be Within Reach—If We’re Willing To Expand Our Perspective And Recognize Potential Before It’s Obvious.

Whether You’re Leading A Team, Building Your Career, Or Preparing For Your Next Chapter, This Conversation Is A Reminder That Real Leadership Is About More Than Personal Success.

It’s About Creating Pathways, Expanding Opportunities, And Leaving A Legacy That Opens Doors For Those Coming Behind You.

60% Complete 🙏🏾🎙️🔥

Season 3 Has Been Bigger Than A Podcast. It’s Been A Masterclass In Trusting Vision, Betting On Relationships, And Going All In On Something Bigger Than Myself.

Every Guest Has Brought A Different Story. A Different Perspective. A Different Lesson. But They’ve All Reinforced One Thing...
Growth Happens When Purpose Meets Preparation.

This Season Has Challenged Me To Elevate Every Part Of The Process—Finding The Right People, Building Authentic Relationships, Creating Intentional Experiences Around Every Conversation, And Bringing Each Guest’s Story To Life In A Way That Feels True To Who They Are.

I’ve Learned That Great Conversations Don’t Just Happen... They’re Built Through Trust, Preparation, Creativity, And Execution.

What’s Been Most Rewarding Isn’t Watching The Platform Grow—It’s Watching The Community Grow Alongside It. People From Different Industries, Backgrounds, And Cities Coming Together To Learn From One Another, Share Perspective, And Realize That Progress Looks Different For Everyone.

I Have Four Slots Available For Leaders, Creatives, Entrepreneurs, Athletes, And Difference Makers Who Have A Story Worth Sharing And A Desire To Leave People Better Than They Found Them.

If That Sounds Like You... Let’s Build Something Meaningful!
