RIDORE x ENDLESSRUNWAY & friends VOL.1 (out now)

The idea of creating a magazine has always been a fantasy of mine up until I met @lee.ridore … We met briefly in front of Mont Royal station on an October night for his first Vision magazine. I pitched the project of collaborating on his next magazine with him & he was immediately open to my ideas.

8 long months of work later including studio session, huge photoshoot, infinite styling sessions, re-writing articles 10 times & interviewing amazing creative friends, the fruits of our labour is finally on paper for y’all to read.

Putting my friends in the magazine was crucial as i always aim to put a spotlight on what the city has to offer & give a voice to people who often doesn’t have the chance to be heard on a larger scale.

Thank you to everyone who participated in making the magazine, thank you if you allowed me to talk about your work, thank you if you purchased a magazine, thank you if you showed up to the very successful launch party & most importantly, thank you to @lepalaisboutique for allowing my team & i to do the event at the very iconic store🤍

몬트리올의 투스젬 아티스트 제메(Jemée)는 2020년 LA의 치과위생사에게 기술을 배웠다. 치과용 재료와 교정치과의 접착 기법을 끌어다 자기만의 방식으로 다듬었고, 2023년엔 캐나다 예술/패션 어워즈 뉴젠 리스트에 올랐다.

보통의 투스젬이 크리스털 한두 알을 반짝 붙이는 데 그친다면, 제메는 검은 마이크로비드를 점묘처럼 이어 치아 위에 필기체 문장을 쓴다. 반짝임 대신 잉크에 가까운 질감, 보석 대신 글자. 여기에 높은음자리표와 별, 하운드투스 체크, 외계인 얼굴 같은 그래픽이 섞여 치아 한 칸이 작은 프레임이 된다. 앞니 전체에 걸친 'Endless Runway', 한쪽엔 'Kiss me' 반대쪽엔 오선 악보, 파티용 'OCTOV'까지. 웃을 때마다 살짝씩 보이는 이 캔버스 위에 놓인건 세상에서 가장 정교한 타이포그래피다.

Jemée, a tooth gem artist based in Montreal, learned the craft in 2020 from a dental hygienist in Los Angeles. She borrowed dental-grade materials and the bonding techniques of orthodontics and honed them into a method of her own, and in 2023 she landed on the NextGen list at the Canadian Arts & Fashion Awards.

Where the usual tooth gem stops at a crystal or two, set to catch the light, Jemée strings black microbeads together like pointillism and writes cursive sentences across the teeth. A texture closer to ink than sparkle, letters instead of jewels. Mixed in are graphics, a treble clef and stars, houndstooth check, an alien's face, so that a single tooth becomes a small frame. "Endless Runway" spanning the front teeth, "Kiss me" on one side and a bar of sheet music on the other, "OCTOV" for a party. On a canvas that shows itself only in glimpses, each time she smiles, sits the most intricate typography in the world.
