Emma and her Guqin at @d1studios.co , 2026

Her story with her lovely instrument:

After years of playing synths, turning knobs and pressing buttons, I longed to return to an acoustic instrument. I wanted something new to explore outside of my background in piano and remembered the guqin 古琴. Literally translating to “ancient instrument”, its sound felt profound and resonated deep within me and I knew I had to get one.

Upon studying the guqin more, I was drawn to the meaning and intentioned imbued in every aspect of the instrument and how you play it. The shape of the instrument represents the human body, specific fingers represent heaven, earth, sun and moon, and every single possible type of fingering technique represents something from the natural world - like 擘 (bo), a right hand thumb outward plucking movement is meant to be “like a crane dancing as a result of being startled by a breeze”.

Had so much fun putting together the first Shutter Drag workshop alongside @johngarduno_
.
It was wonderful getting to share my knowledge and techniques with other folks and hearing about peoples own journeys in this creative space. Walked away with some great connections and wanting to create more with friends. Already working on the next workshop so stay tuned for that one.

A little sneak peek into Weekend Driver with my co hosts, Sherry and Justin! 🎙️

I know it’s been a bit of a slow start, with some delays and changes along the way, but bear with us! We already have 5 episodes recorded and are aiming to release a new episode every two weeks.

Following is Marc Merza’s story:

My art practice is an exploration of personal identity through sonic and visual experimentation. In recent years, I’ve become immersed in my process of capturing field recordings and acoustic performances, then looping and processing them. This often results in a convergence and assemblage of sounds that evoke personal memories, moments, and feelings. My Eurorack can sometimes act as a canvas for me to create aural optimism during these trying times.

This Sunday afternoon come out to meet creatives in Los Angeles who are involved in the running community. We’ll be gathering @d1studios.co for two workshops. One focused on run and gun shooting and the other will be led by @johngarduno_ in studio .
