it will forever be a pleasure to spotlight kenny mason. one of my favorite artists in upcoming hiphop

he just dropped one of the grittiest hip-hop tracks that i’ve heard so far this year in the lead up to his may 12th album, “bulldawg”

kenny mason has been one of my favorite southern rappers for a long time now, but this recent release has to be one of my favorites from him lately. “bounce wit me” gives a lot of the same energy that you’d think a song with that title would give. it’s a true showcase of that southern rap bounce mixed with some gritty vocals and bars from kenny himself. this song has been really well received with one x user writing, “if this is what the album is going to sound like then i am so ready”

speaking of said album, “bulldawg” is set to come out on may 12th and we already have a good idea what this album is going to sound like after this song and the other promo elements dropped so far. a short little paragraph that kenny posted earlier in the rollout showed a lot of the themes and questions that this album will include. one of my favorite questions he asks is, “what are you willing to become for what you want?” it’s a heavy question giving me the indication that this will be a deeper project for kenny

kenny has been hinting at the title of this album with his drops over the past year. he’s dropped 3 of what he calls “pup packs” with little loosies in anticipation of this project. my favorite track from those releases is definitely “4” from “pup pack: 2nd shift.” it has an almost videogame-like analog production behind another gritty vocal performance by kenny with such a creative flow. you can really hear his southern rap influence on this track and hopefully he brings this same style and flow to the actual album

kenny mason is one of the best southern rappers in the game right now and i’m so excited to see what he has in store for “bulldawg”

what do y’all think? did you enjoy the “pup pack” songs? are y’all tapped in with modern day southern rap?
