This car made me fall in love with driving all over again.

“Car” was my first word. Getting to turn that lifelong obsession into a career has been the most rewarding experience of my life.

But after five years of being in, around, or driving interesting cars almost every day, I’d started to feel burnt out. Cars had always been my escape, and lately I was struggling to find the motivation to go for a drive just for the sake of it.

Even picking up this special PTS Boxster Spyder from my friend @d_bam , specced with Will Lee (@ptsrs), I found it hard to get excited for the road ahead. Going straight into SF traffic didn’t help.

Then we got to the coast.

The traffic gave way to winding roads, and with every downshift, upshift, and corner, it started coming back. My head went quiet. I was completely absorbed in the car and the road ahead, enjoying it for exactly what it was built to do.

The perfect road, the perfect car, and the perfect copilot all came together to remind me why my life revolves around the automobile.

And the end of the journey being in Monterey, the home of car week and the place where cars truly became my life… It doesn’t get better.

🎂 Today marks 10 years of PTSRS. A decade of documenting my fascination for colorful Porsches and cars, just for fun. What a time it has been.

10 years ago today, I started @ptsrs to document as many Paint to Sample Porsche 991 GT3 RS examples as I could find online. I was in my final semester of senior year in college (4th year of university in RoW English), and needed a distraction to chip away at while finishing my graduation thesis.

I chose to start an Instagram page simply to help visually keep track of the cars I had already documented as rows and columns of text on an Excel spreadsheet, where I had noted over 300 examples and their configurations such as brake and headlight choices (probably should have done other things, like kick a ball or go see a movie).

So on February 27th, 2016, I made my first post on @ptsrs—a photo of a brand new PTS Green (grün; non-metallic UNI; 2D8) 991 GT3 RS just delivered to our friends at @championporsche. The rest sort of snowballed its way thanks to this community.

My good friend and @ptsrs’ west coast correspondent @og_amer somehow remembered this date, and commissioned a thoughtful tribute to this very first car on @ptsrs from 10 years ago, brilliantly illustrated by Martin @petrolified.

In the second photo, Martin meticulously recreated the period correct view of the first post on Instagram, with a few good Easter eggs as well. Thank you Amer, Martin, and Stephen for this very nice gift.

And thank you to everyone on @ptsrs. As a lifelong car enthusiast, the friendships and experiences that this silly Instagram page has made possible are what I am most grateful for. I included a few highlights of the last decade that were made possible by @ptsrs.

As for the road ahead, my hope is that @ptsrs can help even slightly move the needle in making the world of cars a more colorful place. BASF reported that in 2025, 83% of new cars sold globally were black, white, gray, or silver. Maybe we can help bring that down a bit.

Here’s to the next decade in driving color. 🎨
