I’ve just returned from Bali, where I experienced one of the most powerful acting retreats with my mentor, @budimillertraining

This was my third time doing this retreat, and calling it simply an acting retreat doesn’t even begin to describe the depth of the experience.

Yes, it is about acting. But it is also about connecting with God, immersing ourselves in Balinese culture, exploring Balinese dance, mask work, meditation, ritual and devotion. And that is what makes me return to Bali again and again.

My intention going into this retreat was very clear: to come into deeper contact with God through a deep connection with other people, and to find power in softness and lightness.

And this group… every single person was so special. Thank you for your openness, your courage, your vulnerability, your presence, and for everything you allowed me to see in myself through you.

“Through you, I see myself.”

This became one of the deepest truths of the experience for me. We meet ourselves through one another.

One of the things that moves me most about Bali is the way art and spirituality are inseparable. There isn’t even a direct Balinese word for “art” in the way we understand it. What they create, whether it is dance, music, an offering or a ceremony-is an act of devotion. You do something beautifully and wholeheartedly for the Gods, and when it is done with truth and devotion, the divine comes down to witness it.

That presence, that energy, is called Taksu.

And we witnessed it. We felt it.

Another important part of our journey was reading and exploring the Mahabharata and its ancient Vedic wisdom. So many passages stayed with me, and in my next posts I’ll be sharing some of my favourite quotes and reflections from the book.

I’m bringing so much back with me from Bali—not only as an actor, but as a teacher and a human being. New practices, new discoveries, new ways of working and connecting.

And I’m so ready to bring all of this into my Acting for Life workshop this November and share what I’ve experienced and learned.

For now, here are a few snippets from this very special journey. ❤️

Dreamed that the longer I spoke, the more my own vomit filled a waste bin in my lap with increasing speed. Middle backseat of a moving car. When other people spoke, they filled the bin too with decreasing speed, but it only delayed the decay. No one could escape the inevitable. Realized that without a sharp interruption (someone please let me out of this car), I was doomed to a slow, boring death. Drowning in my own sickness.

@brooklynrail piece by @joeysims89 in print! If you haven’t yet, link to read is in our bio.

“In the tight confines of a basement in Ridgewood, ten acting students swirled around each other, muttering lines from the plays of Tennessee Williams.
“Too loud,” announced Ryan Czerwonko @ryanczerwonko the class’s instructor and artistic director of the DIY-theater and training company Adult Film.

“Whisper.”

We have tons of classes coming up in the fall, Woyzeck this summer, and a full 2027 season soon to be announced.

Nora is a 30 year old sperm bank receptionist with social anxiety and bizarre eating habits. When clips from a shady, late-90s call-in show resurface online starring Pixie, teenage Nora’s alter ego, she is recast as a cult icon and public access legend. Seduced by the internet’s flattering rewrite of her past, Nora agrees to a reunion staged by her former cohost Angela and the shows old producer, Ray. But despite the show’s new resurrection, Nora can’t “reclaim” her experience if the people who were involved refuse to attest to her version of events.
