POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

Wandering around the Fan Expo convention (while Lain and his bestie live their best cosplay life), and I run into this brilliant artist, jaw dropping performer, and all-around delightful human being. Grateful to this day for the incredible work @krystinaalabado did on the Goosebumps The Musical studio cast album!

Goosebumps The Musical Milestone!

First, thanks to all who continue to listen to the studio cast album of Goosebumps The Musical: Phantom of the Auditorium.

Second, the album recently surpassed 9M streams on Spotify. This is a milestone because Spotify represents 31 or 32% of the overall streaming market. Meaning the album has now hit 30,000,000 streams globally, in addition to the many millions of views and listens on YouTube and TikTok. These numbers are, for me, impossible to comprehend.

The album does a lot of business in countries where English is a main language :the US, the UK, Australia, Canada, etc. But it was also played in more than 100 additional countries in the past few weeks alone– from Iraq to the Phlillipines to Ukraine.

Anyway… Thanks! It makes me happy.

And don't forget to add it to your Halloween playlist! )Sweet Jen informs me that Halloween season begins precisely on the day after Labor Day. So you've got a little time!).

There’s a phantom haunting the theater, and the students of Woods Mill Middle School need to catch him or the school play will get canceled!

Goosebumps The Musical has it all! There’s a play within a play, a creepy night janitor, an artsy teacher out to fulfill her ancestors last wish, and plenty of phantom jump-scares!

My favorite costume for this show was the purple and black glittering ballgown Brooke dons when she performs as Esmerelda in the school play. This costume was a delight to design, and it brought out gasps from the audience when the performer walked onstage.

Happy closing to Goosebumps!

It’s closing weekend for Goosebumps The Musical at The Rose Theater! Bringing this spooky show to life was a delight, and really got me into the Halloween spirit!

Goosebumps is set in Woods Mill Middle School, where the theater class has decided to do a “super scary play”. I chose to dress the students of Woods Mill in more muted colors, to speak to the uncertainty of identity that many young people feel in their early teen years. However, when these characters get onstage for their performance, they transition into rich jewel tones, reflecting the sense of confidence they feel onstage.

In this post, I’m highlighting some of the students of Woods Mill Middle School!

Legend has it the theater is haunted by a spooky phantom! I managed to get a few pictures of him while exploring the haunted lobby display at @the_rose_theater before a performance of Goosebumps The Musical!

The Phantom is the latest addition to my collection of show-inspired crochet dolls! He is based on The Phantom from Goosebumps The Musical: Phantom of the Auditorium, which is playing now at The Rose Theater! I’ll be sharing my costume designs for the show soon!

I also got to participate as a part of the immersive lobby experience by becoming a head on a platter to surprise audience members! I dressed up like a scarecrow for this, and the last few photos are from that activity.

@patrickrobertc and I were talking about @goosebumpsthemusical today and it had me missing the #NewYorkPremiere of #GoosebumpsTheMusical.

I had so much fun bringing #Emile to life, a character voiced by @brightmansomesay on the #CastRecording.

@rl_stine1 is gonna be out on #LongIsland this week in #SagHarbor signing books, and I was like “man I wish we were doing it this fall so we can go ask him for a shout out.

Would do this show again in a heartbeat.
@ Any Theatres doing this show, if you need an Emile…gimme a call!

DID YOU KNOW there is a Goosebumps MUSICAL based on one of the original books?

In 2016, First Stage Children’s Theatre and Oregon Children’s Theatre co-commissioned Scholastic to produce a Goosebumps Musical Production for their respective children’s theaters. Composer Danny Abosch and Playwright John Maclay would be tasked with creating the production, as well as the music and lyrics. In the Fall of 2016, “Goosebumps the Musical: Phantom of the Auditorium” would premiere in Milwaukee, Wisconsin at the Todd Wehr Theater, and in Portland, Oregon at the Newmark Theater.

The musical adapts the story of book #24 in the original series, with the plot focusing on a group of kids who suspect a Phantom is trying to sabotage their school play. The first premieres would receive good reviews from local critics, and would soon after make a third premiere in Roanoke, Virginia the following year.

In the Fall of 2021, the musical would be adapted into a Cast Recording CD, featuring the talents of Krystina Alabado, Noah Galvin, and Will Roland, and featured a supporting cast including Alex Brightman, Sheryl Lee Ralph, Stephanie Styles, and R.L. Stine. The CD would also feature a new Cover Art from original Goosebumps artist, Tim Jacobus.

To this day, Goosebumps the Musical has continued to have productions in schools and theaters all over the United States. The musical also has a website featuring dates as well as merchandise related to the show.

William Finn was my grouchy fairy godfather. He was my friend and witness, my collaborator, and of course my mentor. Billy’s words, music, stories, and spirit got me through some of the hardest times in my life, and his belief in me was the force behind most of my early career opportunities and some of my most meaningful friendships. I love you, Mr. Finn, and I look forward to celebrating your legacy as long as I have air in my lungs to sing! Anytime. Mean it. 🙏🏻😭😇

Bill Finn, you changed my life. In 2011, a friend referred me to be a sight singer in his Wednesday lyrics/songwriting masterclass at NYU’s Graduate Musical Theatre writing program. After the first week, he invited me to come back the next week, and the next, and the next for the next 4 years. Bill believed in me and my talent when few teachers at NYU had. That class introduced me to so many incredible composers and lyricists who would later become best friends and collaborators. His shows and music were favorites of mine growing up and I couldn’t believe this genius became one of my greatest mentors. I came to New York for the first time when I was 16 and I begged my parents to see The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee. Most of the greatest moments I had in my career in NYC were because of and through him. Half of my audition book is his songs. I got to perform his music alongside idols of mine all over the country. Bill, I love you and will always be so grateful I got to just be in the room with you, listening to you be so funny and rude and grumpy to some of the greatest composers and lyricists of all time. Rest in peace Uncle Bill. Thank you for introducing me to most of my best friends. I will sing your music forever and pretend you are singing along, harmonizing and blowing raspberries.
