The magic isn't in the big picture—it's in the brush strokes.
God is in the detail.

In Osu, Accra, a clay tennis court sits inside Ghana’s first precast rammed-earth enclosure. Backyard Community Club, designed by @derocheprojects, was commissioned by @amoakoboafo, the painter who grew up in Osu, where he played tennis as a young man before becoming one of Ghana’s most prominent contemporary artists.

Thirty-three wedge-shaped panels, four metres high, wrap the regulation court, with a 230-square-metre garden of edible and medicinal plants running along one edge. Lessons are free for local children under eighteen.

Wishing a happy birthday to Amoako Boafo (@amoakoboafo), who was born on this day, May 10, in Accra, Ghana! These stills are taken from a short film capturing the artist in Accra as he prepares for his first solo exhibition in Italy, “It doesn’t have to always make sense,” now on view at Museo di Palazzo Grimani (@museopalazzogrimani), Venice.

The exhibition, which also features the film, includes a series of new and recent works, many of which directly reference the unique architecture and historical context of the site, which is part of the Musei archeologici nazionali di Venezia e della Laguna (@museiarcheoveneziaelaguna). You should see this 👀✨

Shot entirely on iPhone by director Prince Suasie, Process follows Amoako Boafo through the spaces that shape his practice, from the studio to the tennis court to the Museo di Palazzo Grimani, where the Ghanaian painter presents his first solo exhibition in Italy as part of the 61st Venice Biennale.

Moving between behind-the-scenes moments and the act of making itself, the film offers an intimate look into Boafo’s creative rhythm, collaboration, and relationship to space. Featuring an original score by Worlasi, Process becomes a meditation on art, process, and the beauty of restraint.

Classic architecture, modern energy.

In a dispensation where sustainability dominates global conversations, one fact stands out. The built environment is responsible for nearly 37% of global energy-related CO₂ emissions (IEA/UNEP). That statistic alone demands that we rethink how and what we build.

Long before concrete and steel dominated our cities, earth architecture shaped civilizations across Africa, Asia, and the Middle East, thriving in climates and redefining the built environment.

The real question is not whether earth construction works, but why we abandoned it, and can innovation permit us to reclaim it? In our rapidly urbanizing world, where climate urgency, affordability, and scale must coexist, ancient wisdom offers more than nostalgia. It provides tested ancestral environmental intelligence.

As part of my continuous development, my team and I recently immersed ourselves in a hands-on Rammed Earth workshop, gaining first-hand experience on earth construction techniques. Facilitated by Rammteck, with over 15 years of applied expertise, the workshop was both grounding and eye-opening.

This experience marks a quiet but important shift in my practice. I am now actively exploring how #RammedEarth can be incorporated in upcoming projects as a low-carbon and climate-responsive input. My doors are open to collaborators, clients, and institutions interested in exploring earth designs for their projects.
