POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

#Torchwood is 20 years old. Here are a couple of blurry photos from 2006, taken in Cardiff when I was visiting for research on my first Torchwood novel.

I don't recall my digital camera being so terrible, but perhaps (a) these photos were cropped from bigger images or (b) they were shot with a telephoto lens from Swansea.

The first photo shows @josephlidster standing on the "entry flagstone" for the underground Torchwood Hub and studiously not telling us that he was writing a script for series 2. The second photo shows @dabnett, me and @andylanewriter

📚 Hive by Dan Abnett | Spoiler Free Review

Well, Dan Abnett has absolutely done it again.

Just finished Hive and honestly, this is not only my favourite Warhammer 40K book I’ve read this year, but potentially one of my favourite books overall this year.

I always love Dan’s writing, and this was no exception. The world building, the characters and the way he slowly unravels the story had me hooked. I love getting to explore different parts of the 40K universe, and seeing life inside a hive city rather than following the usual Space Marine suspects was such a great change of pace.

The setting is absolutely fantastic, really capturing the scale, corruption and sheer madness of life in the Imperium. There’s so much going on beneath the surface, and just when you think you’ve got things figured out, the story throws something else at you.

And the twists! 👀 Honestly, go into this one knowing as little as possible. There are some big ones, and I’m absolutely not going to be the person who ruins them for anyone else!

I’ve been on a massive Warhammer reading binge lately, and books like this are exactly why I love the setting so much. There’s so much more to 40K than Space Marines, and I’m really enjoying exploring stories that focus on other characters and corners of the galaxy.

If you’re a 40K fan, I’d definitely recommend picking this one up. @dabnett remains one of my favourite authors for a reason!

“Together again, Doc!”
“STOP calling me DOC Selkirk!”

An unlikely duo, but it worked so well when @dabnett wrote them! The veteran gone mad from isolation, and the team psychiatrist sent to… check he’s okay. Like a PG Apocalypse Now - - psychiatric evaluation, with extreme prejudice 😅

Had THE best weekend just gone! ❤️ Started off legging it from Manchester down to Maidstone for the Litfest to meet some very cool and incredibly lovely shooty-death-kill-in-space enjoyers (sorry for nicking the photo! 😅) and the man who has written the series that's had me looking consistently stressed in the car on my commutes the last year or so.

Then off to Portsmouth to see the sea and most very dearest friends (and cannons!!!) 10/10 research on if the human head can indeed be put into most of the cannons at Fort Nelson.

And rounded out FINALLY catching lovely friends in London whilst on their own adventure!

My legs are so very tired but my heart is so very full ❤️

Gritty scifi you need to add to your TBR! 🩸

Save this post for the next time you need a genuinely dark, unapologetically brutal sci-fi read. Which ones did I miss? Drop your favorites in the comments so I can add them to my TBR!

CURRENTLY READING....something completely different and out of my comfort zone, but I'm enjoying it!

⚔️ HORUS RISING - Dan Abnett

While I have played Space Marines on Xbox, the Warhammer world and lore is not something I've been invested in, until now, thanks to my partner Doug who convinced me to give it a go! (Because I clearly need more things to be invested it. 🫪😅) My bank balance is inevitably going to suffer.
